Welcome to your newsletter for week ending March 6th

What a fabulous end to the week with the playground turning into a riot of colour, music playing, samosas on offer and Richa, Shruti and Siya's wonderful dancing! Thankyou to everyone who hung around to celebrate Holi.

We've kicked off our month with SAMPAD with theatre, art and dance and are really looking forward to this culminating on the last day of term- see more details below.

We've got lots coming up in the next three weeks so please keep a close eye on the website calendar and the newsletter, making a note of important dates. In the final week we will be sharing your children's progress and attainment data and this will remain 'live' over the Easter holiday, up to and including the Open Evening (3:30-4:30pm) on Wednesday 15th April, where you can chat about this with teachers and have a look at books etc- no appointment necessary.

Thankyou for your efforts to reduce lost property in school- so far it's not looking too bad. Please remember to check items of uniform to ensure names are still visible so we can return 'lost' items- thankyou.

Year 5 Author Visit (18/03/26)

On Wednesday 18th March we have an author visit for Year 5.

Nat Luurtsema will be coming in to talk about her new book The Overthinkers:

Birdie is an overthinker, and she has a lot to overthink. Her BFF Chloe wants new friends (BETRAYAL), she will be a teenager in one year (BREATHE), yet owns ZERO bras (surely some mistake?!), and a boy at school maybe has a crush on her (BUT HOW TO BE SURE?!).

So Birdie has made a Happy List to tackle all the awkward and emotional challenges of being a tween. THEN she will stop being an anxious ball of stress and be happy!

That's the plan anyway...

If you would like to pre-order the book, click the link below https://howbraveisthewren.com/product/the-overthinkers-club-bvp-pre-order/

Celebrating Cultures Day

We are looking forward to our "Celebrating Cultures Day" on Friday March 27th.

Children can wear their own clothes-  we'd love to see them coming to school wearing clothes and accessories that represent their families' cultures and heritage. However, if children prefer they can wear their usual school uniform or 'own clothes' of their choice.

Year 4 will be performing the dance they have learnt in their SAMPAD sessions. This will commence at 2.45pm. Parents are welcome to attend.

Finally, parents are welcome to bring food to share into school at the end of the day.

** If your child is in KS2 and has their Values assembly in the George Hall, please can families wait at the school office, NOT the playground.**

World Book Day

It was wonderful to see so many children celebrating their favourite books on Thursday. We had a school full of an amazing range of book characters- thankyou for supporting your children so brilliantly with this.

Ramadan Fasting Form

Parents and carers are kindly asked to inform the school if their child will be fasting during Ramadan.

This helps us ensure that we can support students appropriately throughout the school day.

If you have not already notified the school, please contact the school office and request a Ramadan fasting form.

The completed form should be returned to the office as soon as possible so that staff are aware and can make any necessary arrangements for your child during this period.

Thank you for your cooperation.

Big Walk and Wheel 16th-27th March

We are taking part in Big Walk and Wheel, the UK’s largest inter-school cycling, walking, wheeling and scooting challenge. The challenge runs from 16 – 27 March 2026. It’s free to take part and we would love everyone to be involved.

What do you need to do?

Encourage your child to walk, use a wheelchair, scoot or cycle to school on as many days as possible during the event. We know it may be more difficult for some pupils to take part than others. If you want to discuss more about your child’s specific needs, please contact Mr Hall and we will make sure to look into how your child can take part.

Why we are taking part

Big Walk and Wheel is a great way to build physical activity in children’s daily routine which is important for their physical health and mental wellbeing. Active school runs also help to reduce congestion and air pollution outside the school gate. Plus, there are some great prizes to be won every day if we get enough children taking part!

Useful resources

Walk Wheel Cycle Trust has developed a handy Parent/ Caregiver page on the challenge website. It is packed with advice to help you have a hassle-free journey to school. For more information about the event go to www.bigwalkandwheel.org.uk.

Enjoy the challenge!

Picture News Special Resource

In some classrooms, and where appropriate, we have been helping children understand the news about increased tensions in the Middle East. We have used this resource and thought that it might be helpful for families too, if you are looking for the right words or explanations.

We are particularly mindful of our families who may be impacted by this worrying activity. Please let us know if this is the case and we will do everything we can to support you and your children.

An Incredible Act of Generosity Supporting SEND at BVP

We are delighted to share that a family within our school community has made an extraordinary donation of £18,000 to support SEND provision at Bournville Village Primary School.

This incredibly generous gift will make a significant and lasting difference to the support we are able to offer children with additional needs. Thanks to this contribution, we will be able to further enhance our SEND provision through a range of initiatives including additional therapeutic support, specialist resources, staff training, and targeted interventions that help pupils thrive both academically and emotionally.

As a school, we are deeply committed to ensuring that every child receives the support they need to succeed, and donations such as this allow us to go even further in the opportunities and provision we can offer.

We would like to express our sincere gratitude to the family for their remarkable generosity and for their continued belief in the work we do at BVP. Their kindness will have a meaningful impact on many children for years to come.

Talking to Children About News of Conflict

Children sometimes hear about difficult events in the news or through conversations with others. Recently there has been news about conflict involving Iran, and some children may have questions or worries about what they have heard.

For younger children, it is often best to keep conversations simple and reassuring. You might start by asking what they already know and how it makes them feel. This helps adults understand any worries and gently correct misunderstandings.

Try to give clear, age-appropriate explanations. Children do not need detailed information. A simple explanation such as “There are disagreements and fighting happening in some places far away, and many people are working hard to help and bring peace” can be enough.

Reassure children that they are safe and that there are many helpers in the world – such as doctors, aid workers and charities – supporting people affected by conflict.

It can also help to limit children’s exposure to upsetting news coverage and to keep conversations open so they feel comfortable asking questions.

We have included some links below that you may find useful when talking to your children. If your child seems particularly worried, please remember we are always here to help and support.  We can be contacted via the main office or directly [email protected]

WWF Fundraiser

A few of our lovely pupils are planning a fundraiser for WWF.

As many of you will already know, World Wide Fund for Nature focuses on protecting biodiversity, reducing human impact on the environment, and promoting sustainable, green initiatives worldwide.

This will take place on Friday 20th March at the end of the day on the school's middle playground .

They will be selling various items from loomband bracelets to lip scrubs and raffle tickets.

Please see the below flyers for more information.

If you have any further questions, contact the school office.

We hope you are able to come along and support this fantastic pupil-led initiative!

And finally...

It's so lovely to be sending this newsletter out with the sun still in the sky (ish!). With the lighter evenings, if you are starting to think about your children walking home from school without you (Year 6 only), please contact the office who can give you the form to complete, notifying us of your intentions.

We hope you all have a good weekend and we look forward to seeing you all bright and early on Monday.

Safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children is the responsibility of everyone in our school and at all times we consider what is in our children’s best interests. We work to ensure our children are safe and cared for and by doing this we are protecting their health and development and preventing them from harm. If we are worried, we will raise concerns, share information, and take prompt action with the aim of ensuring families receive the right help at the right time.
