The Eco group will be looking at ways to make our school, community, and planet sustainable now and for future generations.
Sustainability means taking care of our planet so there are enough resources for everyone, now and in the future. It is about using things like water and energy wisely, so they do not run out, and making choices that protect the environment and keep it clean for people, animals, and plants to thrive in. Examples include not wasting water, turning off lights, and recycling.
- It is about the future: Sustainability ensures that future generations, like younger brothers, sisters, or even future grandchildren, can also enjoy a beautiful and healthy planet.
- Using resources wisely: This means using things like water, electricity, and trees in a way that does not waste them. For example, it is better to ride a bike than drive a car to save gas, which is a natural resource.
- Protecting nature: Sustainability includes protecting plants, animals, and all living things so they can continue to live and thrive.
- The 3 Rs: A straightforward way to remember is to Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle. This helps cut down on waste and keeps our planet clean.
Actions by the Eco group:
Raise money for adopt an animal.
Ensure each class has an Eco monitor - to switch off WB’s, lights, and close doors.
Introduce recycling bins into all classrooms, communal areas, playgrounds.
Launch a better use of electricity campaign - switch off boards, lights, computers.
Meet with the Eco officer for Birmingham (January 2026) to learn about the following:
- The life cycle of waste
- How our behaviour contributes to a greener planet
- Composting
- Recycling
- How to reduce our environmental footprint
