PE and Sports Premium

The Primary PE and Sport Premium is designed to help children get an active start in life, supporting primary schools to improve the quality of their PE and sport provision so that pupils experience the benefits of regular exercise – from becoming healthier both mentally and physically to improved behaviour and better academic achievement. The funding is a ring-fenced grant for English primary schools to provide additional and sustainable improvements to the quality of PE, sport and physical activity.

At Bournville Village Primary School, we believe that high quality P.E and sport inspires all pupils to succeed and excel in competitive sport and other physically demanding activities. Providing opportunities for our pupils to compete in sport and other activities builds character and helps to embed values such as fairness and respect.

Funding for 2022/23

For 2022/23 BVPS have been allocated £21,910 of PE and sports premium funding. As a school, we are part-way through an 18-month project to improve the quality of play opportunities for our children through the Opal Primary Programme; some of the PE and Sports premium funding will be used to continue to fund this project.

The Outdoor Play and Learning (OPAL) Primary Programme is a mentor-supported school improvement programme. It addresses all of the areas schools must plan for if they want to strategically and sustainably improve the quality of their play opportunities. Evidence shows that schools who participate in the programme have been able to greatly increase the physical activity of all children and get more children, more active more of the time, and sustain those benefits over many years.
