Welcome to your newsletter for week ending February 13th

Reminder: Nut-free school

A reminder to our families that BVP is a Nut-Free School. This includes food items such as Nutella, Hummus, Pesto, particular chocolates/ breads and any type of whole nut.

Drop Off/Pick Up Parking Reminder

We are proud to be part of a supportive local community and work closely with our neighbours and community partners.

Please remember that private car parks must not be used without permission, and all parking at drop-off and pick-up times should be safe, legal and considerate. Disabled bays, access points and entrances must always be kept clear.

We regularly remind families about the importance of driving slowly and showing courtesy and respect to local residents and organisations. Thank you to the many families who model this so well.

By working together, we can ensure everyone’s safety and maintain the positive relationships we value.

Safer Internet Day!

On Tuesday 10th February, it was Safer Internet Day.  Children across all year groups participated in lessons, which focused on using ‘SMART’ to stay safe online and to understand how to use AI safely.   These messages were delivered by our Digital Leaders during assembly and within the classroom.

In KS2, children accessed an online lesson (https://www.bbc.co.uk/teach/topics/cekpvy5vp79t) which discussed how even though AI is fun to use, it can also be inaccurate, so they should always 'double check'  information and see if it is 'reliable'.  Another main point the children have learnt is that AI is not human, so therefore it does not understand human emotions. As a result, children were told that they should always talk to a 'trusted adult' when they are upset or experiencing problems as AI is not the correct platform for this.

We’re Moving to Instagram!

We sent an email last week to let families know that we're moving from X (formally Twitter) to Instagram as a school channel to showcase all the good news that happens in school!

Attendance Armadillos

This week, the attendance armadillos were handed to...

Maths competition success!

Last Friday, some of our Y5 children went to a maths competition at King Edward School. They were competing against five other local schools in the heats, which contained cross-number and relay rounds, with the aim of qualifying for the Grand Final. The boys did amazingly well, and ended up in 1st place overall! Congratulations team, and we will be cheering you on in the final at the end of March.

NSPCC Rocks!

Thank you to all KS2 children who took part in the NSPCC Rocks competition on Number Day last Friday. The results are in, and there have been lots of certificates awarded in school this week for each class's Most Valuable Player. Overall, we were ranked the 151st best school in the West Midlands, with class 5B placing highest at BVP. Let's aim even higher next time!

Young Voices Update

We hope you are looking forward to the rescheduled concert on February 27th.

In order to manage the change of date for purchased tickets, the YV team need to go through a process with the Box Office at BP Pulse Live.

Once they have this information, the tickets will be re-issued to yourselves.

World Book Day

We are starting to think ahead to World Book Day, which we will celebrate on Thursday March 5th this year.

This year the theme will be Go All In to support the National Year of Reading Campaign to get more people reading from pre-schoolers to our grandparents! The National Year of Reading theme, Go All In, is all about diving deeper into the things you already love through reading. Whether you’re passionate about football, animals, space, fashion, gaming, history, music or making people laugh, books can bring your interests to life in exciting new ways.

It would not be World Book Day without our children (and staff!) dressing up! We hope that this will help our pupils recommend books to each other and express their own reading identity. This year we have

several options:

  • a favourite book character
  • an outfit reflecting a non-fiction (fact) book about an activity/topic they are interested in e.g. pirates, a cookbook, sports
  • wear or carry a clue to a particular book or genre they enjoy e.g. a wand and wizard hat for Harry Potter, a golden ticket for Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, a red and black stripy top for The Beano, a light sabre for Star Wars….

We will be encouraging children to share their reading choices with their class on the day, so please can they also have a copy of the book with them (from home or school).

Wherever possible, please use what you already have at home rather than buying new costumes. With a little imagination, you and your child can have great fun sharing ideas and putting together their outfit or creating their object as a clue.

National Book Token Competition

To celebrate World Book Day and the UK’s National Year of Reading 2026, the sponsors National Book Tokens are inviting children of all ages to DESIGN A NATIONAL BOOK TOKEN for their annual competition.

Children are challenged to create a bold, eye-catching gift card design that celebrates their interests and shows how books help them explore ideas, spark imagination and go further through reading, and they could win prizes galore.

Six winning entrants will win book tokens for their school and themselves. Plus, one overall winner will see their design turned into a real National Book Token for every child in their class.

So get the pencils, pens and paints ready… and let’s GO ALL IN this World Book Day.

The closing date for entries is Friday 27th March 2026. Winners will be announced in May 2026.

To find out how to submit your child’s entry (either by post or online), more details on how to enter and the terms and conditions, please use the link below:

Upcoming Visits

To enhance our Religious Education curriculum, we will be arranging visits to local places of worship for Years 1-6. This will enable the children to broaden their understanding of the six major world religions; Christianity, Islam, Judaism, Buddhism, Sikhism and Hinduism.

By visiting these places, children will gain first-hand experience and deeper understanding of what each building looks like, the customs/traditions and will take part in activities to learn more about the religion.  We are also using the visits as opportunities to support children's personal development and to promote the British Value of ‘Mutual Respect and Tolerance’ of those with different faiths and beliefs. For children who are currently in Reception and Year 1, the idea is that they will visit a different place each year and will have visited 6 different places of worship by the time they leave Year 6.

We are lucky to have a diverse school family that can continue to learn from one another. School will be funding the cost of travel but do look out for an option on Arbor to make a voluntary contribution, if this is something you would like to do.

Who? Which religion and where? When?
Year 1 Christianity- Church Spring Term
Year 2 Islam- Mosque Summer Term
Year 3 Judaism- Synagogue Summer Term
Year 4 Buddhism- Vihara Summer Term
Year 5 Sikhism- Gurdwara Summer Term
Year 6 Hinduism- Mandir Summer Term

If you would like to discuss these opportunities further, please contact our R.E. Lead, Miss Gillett, at [email protected]

After the half term we will begin WEEK 1 of the new menu.

You can pre-book meals in advance on Arbor till the end of the academic year (Arbor>> Meals>> Meal Choices Available>> Select Meal Choice)

Reminder: Even if your child is a packed Lunch, parents will need to book that lunch option on Arbor!

Hello all, Brilliant news, as mentioned in last week's newsletter, the school are using funds raised by the PTA to update the children’s outdoor space. £10,000 has been made available towards the climbing frame, and £5,000 towards the playground line markings and games.

These are essential features for outdoor learning and will enhance the children’s time in the playground. We are excited to see what new and creative play areas the school council and team will choose!
The amount of money raised is absolutely amazing and all down to your generous donations, and the wonderful parent / child volunteers that help make fun things happen. Thank you!
