Welcome to your newsletter for week ending October 16th
We've ended the week with some lovely sunshine, albeit a little chillier and feeling a bit more autumnal! This week we welcomed the Thrive Team from Natwest who delivered the first of six Financial Literacy sessions- today it was for children in Year One. We hope the children enjoyed their 'Smoothie Workshop' and can remember what they learnt about 'wants' and 'needs'! Next month, the team will be visiting Year Two.
We also had our first Parent Voice meeting of the year- thank you to the parent (yes, just one!) who attended. We had a good conversation about the development of our Anti-Racist School Statement and the work going on in school to ensure our children thrive in a school free of racism. Although the statement is still in a draft format, if this is something of interest to you and you would like to read the draft and give feedback, please contact Mrs Cooper via head@bournvillevillageprimary.org.uk and we can get it sent over to you.

BVP Family Groups
Last Friday, children and teachers from across the school gathered together for our first ever Family Group event!
Family Groups are made up of a few children from each year group, from our youngest Receptions to our oldest Y6's. The purpose of the day was to bring our school community together and foster relationships across the school. It was a fabulous afternoon, and feedback from the children has been overwhelmingly positive!
The Family Groups learned about their different country, including the language and architecture, which was reflected in their activities. Granada learned about the Islamic artwork of the Alhambra; Xi'an built walls and towers inspired by the Great Wall and Terracotta Army; and Athens even had a visit from the ancient Greek God Zeus (Mr King in a toga!)
We are already looking forward to our next Family Group event on Tuesday 1st December.
Next week we will be on WEEK 2 of the menu.
You can pre-book meals in advance on Arbor till the end of the academic year (Arbor>> Meals>> Meal Choices Available>> Select Meal Choice)
Reminder: Even if your child is a packed Lunch, parents will need to select this option on Arbor!
This week we have been asking children about their right to access information and how this links to the development of AI technologies. After looking at this week's Picture News, KS2 children overwhelming said 'NO' in response to the question "Do we need AI wherever we go?" What do you think? Read the article at the very bottom of this months' KS2 Assembly website page using the link here.
Raising Awareness of Developmental Language Disorder (DLD)
Developmental Language Disorder (DLD), is a lifelong condition that affects how people understand and use language. DLD can affect a child’s ability to understand instructions, learn new words, express their thoughts and take part in conversations. It is not caused by a lack of intelligence, and with the right understanding and support, children with DLD can thrive.
Let’s light up Birmingham for DLD Awareness Day! 💜💛
Look out for local “Light-Up” events celebrating DLD Awareness Day across Birmingham. This year, the trees along Kings Heath High Street will be lit up in purple and yellow to help raise awareness and show support for people with DLD.
Families, professionals and individuals with DLD are invited to join Kate Starr and others at 5pm this Friday to see the lights. There will also be an opportunity to take part in an optional group photo at around 5.30pm.
By learning more about DLD and spreading awareness, we can help create a more understanding and inclusive environment where every child feels heard, valued and supported.
Christmas Fair
This is a call-out for anyone keen to get involved in face painting at the Christmas fair. We have one fabulous volunteer already but it was so busy last year it would be good to have another.
We've still got the last couple of spaces available for stall holders too so please apply here if you are interested
Christmas Cards
Thank you for all of your orders. They are due to be delivered in approximately 4-6 weeks time. Anyone still wishing to order Christmas cards/items must now use this link to order from Cauliflower cards direct:
And finally...
We hope you have a good weekend with a moment or two to put your feet up! We are looking forward to seeing you on Monday, for the last week of the Autumn 1!
Take care all.
Safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children is the responsibility of everyone in our school and at all times we consider what is in our children’s best interests. We work to ensure our children are safe and cared for and by doing this we are protecting their health and development and preventing them from harm. If we are worried, we will raise concerns, share information, and take prompt action with the aim of ensuring families receive the right help at the right time.
