Welcome to your newsletter for week ending October 23rd
We've had a sightly soggy and windy end to the week but we've still managed to get out for short periods across the day, including Reception and the 3S Forest School sessions where skills in creating waterproof shelters were tested to the limit!
As the first half term draws to a close, we start to think ahead to events across November and December. Please keep an eye on the website calendar and the newsletter for what's coming up.
Most of you will have noticed The Barn on the top playground- this is a set of two rooms to expand the space and improve the provision we have for children across the school. The rooms are The Willow Room and The Ash Room. The Willow Room is going to be an extension of the Pastoral spaces in school and will be used alongside the Den (in the George Building) and the Burrow (in the Elizabeth Building). The Cottage is going to be used in a slightly different way so children who use this space regularly will be getting used to the new Willow Room. The Ash room will be a work station intervention room, mainly for children in KS2.
We are sure children will soon get used to the new spaces- if you would like to know more or have a look round the new spaces, please get in touch with any of us.
Reminder: Secondary School Applications- September 2027
A reminder for parents and carers of children born between 1 September 2015 and 31 August 2016 that applications for secondary school places must be submitted by 11:59 pm on 31 October 2026.
Please ensure you apply on time, as late applications are less likely to result in an offer from one of your preferred schools. Applications can be made via Birmingham City Council’s School Admissions website.
If you need help with the application process, please call 0121 303 1888 or email admissions@birmingham.gov.uk.
School place offers will be announced on 1 March 2027.
Please note: this application process does not apply to children with an EHCP, whose secondary transfer is managed through SENAR.
After half term, the daily assemblies for children in Years 1 and 2 will take place in the afternoons, at the end of the day. This is to increase teaching time in the mornings, as these sessions are shorter than the afternoon's due to KS1's earlier lunch. This will also include the Friday Values Assemblies which will now take place at 2:45pm.
You will be reminded of this within the email invitation should your child be receiving a certificate. Reception classes are also joining Friday Values assemblies from Friday 6th November.
To view more dates, please visit our website calendar under the 'Families' tab or click here.

As you can see, some of the socks were very crazy indeed! We managed to raise over £230 for the Royal Orthopaedic Charity thanks to your donations. A massive thank you to everyone who took part!
Year 5 This Week...
Visit from National Grid
Earlier this week, National Grid visited Year 5 to talk to us about how electricity travels from power stations to our homes.
Year 5 really enjoyed learning about how electricity is generated and distributed, discovering more about the journey it takes before we can use it in our everyday lives. It was a fantastic opportunity to build on our learning and find out more about the importance of electricity.
'Dress Red' Day
This term, Year 5 have been exploring texts about homelessness. Year 5 have written poetry, created narratives and produced non-chronological reports about homelessness.
Alongside this, we have been learning about charities that support people experiencing homelessness. Today, Year 5 wore red to show their support for St Basils, a charity that helps young people aged 16–25 who are affected by homelessness.
If you would like to make a donation to support this cause, you can find the payment item under the School Shop section on Arbor.

We work to ensure our children are safe and cared for and by doing this we are protecting their health and development and preventing them from harm. If we are worried, we will raise concerns, share information, and take prompt action with the aim of ensuring families receive the right help at the right time.
