Welcome to your newsletter for week ending October 9th

The week ended with our first Family Group activity this afternoon- this is part of our Personal Development Curriculum where once per half term we set up 21 family groups which are made up of children from all year groups. We will meet as a family group every half term and at the start of the new academic year, when the Year 6s have moved on, the families will be joined by children from the new Reception classes.

We hope the children enjoyed their first meeting with their family group- next week we will give you some more information about this initiative and hopefully share some photos of some of the activities that took place.

We also had our values assemblies this morning and were very pleased to have the Reception classes joining Years 1 and 2 in the Elizabeth Building. Hopefully it won't be too long before we can regularly include our youngest members of the BVP family and celebrate their achievements with demonstrating our values, alongside their school peers.

On Monday we have our first Parent Voice meeting of the academic year- do look at the website page here to read more about these meetings, and if you are interested in joining us, please let Jogita know you are planning to come along via the email address in the 'what's coming up' section below.

Secondary School Applications- September 2027

A reminder for parents and carers of children born between 1 September 2015 and 31 August 2016 that applications for secondary school places must be submitted by 11:59 pm on 31 October 2026.

Please ensure you apply on time, as late applications are less likely to result in an offer from one of your preferred schools. Applications can be made via Birmingham City Council’s School Admissions website.

If you need help with the application process, please call 0121 303 1888 or email admissions@birmingham.gov.uk.

School place offers will be announced on 1 March 2027.

Please note: this application process does not apply to children with an EHCP, whose secondary transfer is managed through SENAR.

A Massive Thank You!

St Francis church would like to say a big thank you to all our families who donated food and other essentials at the recent Harvest Service. The donations were collected by the B30 and South Birmingham Foodbank. In total a massive 330.30kg of food was donated by BVP, St Francis and church members!

Mindful Parking

We kindly ask all families to be considerate when parking during school drop-off and pick-up times. We have received several complaints from our neighbours, including one instance where a driveway was blocked for around 30 minutes, preventing a resident from leaving their property.

Please ensure that driveways are kept clear at all times and that you park safely and considerately, showing respect for our neighbours and the local community.

Thank you for your cooperation and support in helping us maintain positive relationships with our neighbours.

Mrs Cooper was very pleased to meet some of the Rights Respecting School Ambassadors this morning, to help create a short video of what it means to be part of a Rights Respecting School and to share why they thought families should choose BVP for their children. We are hoping that the video will form part of the presentation to prospective families when we hold our Open Evenings next week.

We are also looking for projects in and around the school community that the group can get involved with, particularly if this means campaigning for positive changes. If you, or someone you know, is part of or knows about a project like this, and you think our Rights Respecting School Ambassadors can get involved, please get in touch with Mrs Cooper via head@bournvillevillageprimary.org.uk

And finally...

With the weather beginning to change, please ensure children have a named waterproof coat (preferably with a hood) in school with them every day.

Take care over the weekend- we look forward to seeing you on Monday for the penultimate week of the half term!

Safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children is the responsibility of everyone in our school and at all times we consider what is in our children’s best interests. We work to ensure our children are safe and cared for and by doing this we are protecting their health and development and preventing them from harm. If we are worried, we will raise concerns, share information, and take prompt action with the aim of ensuring families receive the right help at the right time.
