Welcome to your newsletter for week ending September 25th

The weeks are rolling by and the calendar is certainly filling up. We think all the key dates are on the website calendar now, so please do look ahead.

In today's KS1 Values Assembly we had time to reflect on learning from assemblies across the week and we were really impressed with how much our Year 1 and 2 children had retained. Most of our children attend assemblies daily. These are times when we can cover 'big' topics such as the Articles of the Convention on the Rights of the Child, British Values, Ways to Wellbeing and of course our six school values. As a general rule the plan for both KS1 and KS2 assemblies is..

Monday- a Children's Rights focus which may be about a certain day (on Monday it was the International Day of Peace), or a rights based topic from around the world. On Tuesdays we focus on the value of the half term. On Wednesdays we focus on a British Value or a Way to Wellbeing and on Thursdays we look at an article from the Picture News resource which is something that has been in the news that week and is linked to Children's Rights, British values, Protected Characteristics and Media Literacy. And on Friday we have our Values Assemblies.

So lots of learning happening, even before the start of lessons back in the classroom!

These sessions provide an opportunity to discuss any concerns, seek support, or simply have an informal chat with a member of the pastoral team. We'd love to see as many of you as possible. Please feel free to drop in, have a coffee and a chat.

It's a busy week of maths ahead at BVP! On Monday 28th September, our Reception children will be having their Numbots launch and will be bringing their login details home in their planners. All Reception, Y1 and Y2 parents and children are invited to attend a Numbots workshop in Elizabeth Hall at 3:30 with Mr Hall. It will be a hands-on session where the children can login, play some games, and parents can receive information about the programme.
On Thursday 1st October, we will be having our Rock'n'Robots dressing up day! Children are invited to come to school dressed as a robot (Reception, Y1, Y2) or a rock star (Y3, Y4, Y5, Y6), or in their own clothes if they choose. There will be lots of fun maths-themed activities going on in school across the day. All Y3 and Y4 parents and children are invited to attend a TTRS workshop in George Hall at 15:30 with Mr Hall. This will also be a hands-on session, and will also contain information for parents about the Y4 Multiplication Tables Check and importance of learning tables in Y3 and Y4.

Phonics and Early Reading

We have put together a letter explaining how reading works at BVP, including some of the questions we are often asked about reading groups, phases and repeated books. We would encourage parents and carers to take a few minutes to read it, as it explains how we match books to individual children and why children will not always move through phases or books at the same pace. You can find the letter, along with further information about phonics and reading, on our school website here.

I'm looking forward to meeting our Reception and KS1 parents and carers at our upcoming phonics and reading workshops on Tuesday 29th September, 9:00–9:30am, and Thursday 1st October, 3:30–4:30pm. We’ll look at our phonics and reading schemes in more detail, how we teach and support reading in school, and some of the ways you can support your child at home.

Next week we will be on WEEK 2 of the menu.

You can pre-book meals in advance on Arbor till the end of the academic year (Arbor>> Meals>> Meal Choices Available>> Select Meal Choice)

Reminder: Even if your child is a packed Lunch, parents will need to book that lunch option on Arbor!

Menu theme- Pizza Day

On Thursday 1st October there will be a pizza themed menu. If your child would like to have something off the menu for lunch that day, please head to the Meals section on Arbor and book a "School Dinner/ Halal School Dinner" for next Thursday.

This week's Picture News story, some info and how it links to one of Rights of the Child...

And finally...

Take care all- we are looking forward to seeing you back again on Monday morning with hopefully a little more of this lovely Autumn sunshine.

Safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children is the responsibility of everyone in our school and at all times we consider what is in our children’s best interests. We work to ensure our children are safe and cared for and by doing this we are protecting their health and development and preventing them from harm. If we are worried, we will raise concerns, share information, and take prompt action with the aim of ensuring families receive the right help at the right time.
