Welcome to your newsletter for week ending September 11th

We've had a good first full week which ended with our first values Assembly in KS1 and KS2- very well done to the children who were awarded certificates this week. We've been working on finalising our school priorities for this academic year- these decisions are always influenced by the feedback we get from children, families and staff and in the Welcome Back meetings next week, you will be able to hear more about the key focus areas for the year. 

Thankyou again for the feedback to the Summer Survey- a summary of the results are on the Parent Voice page of the website here towards the bottom of the page. We are planning this year's Parent Voice meetings next week, so do look out for the dates of these.

And talking of dates, the website calendar is filling up nicely- we just have a few more to add when we have confirmation from venues etc, such as Sports Day. 

The excitement is slowly building for our Talent Show in October- all the details are in the information further below.

Finally for this bit, if you have children in Years 2-6, they will have come out with their homework books today- details for which pages to complete will be in either their planners or inside the cover of the homework book. All homework is given out on a Friday, to be returned the following Friday. 

Headlice Reminder 

We have had a couple of cases of head lice reported in school, so we would like to remind families to check their children’s hair regularly.

Head lice are a common and irritating problem, particularly among primary-aged children, but regular checking and careful combing can help to identify and manage them early. We encourage parents and carers to check their child’s hair regularly and, if possible, make regular combing part of their routine.

If you do find head lice, please inform the school so that we can send a reminder to other families and help prevent them from spreading further.

Thank you for your support with regular checks and keeping us informed. Working together, we can help to keep head lice under control.

Photo Permissions 

Our individual school photographs will be taking place next month.

To ensure your preferences are up to date, please log in to your Arbor account and consent to or decline photograph use for your child.

Consent covers photographs used for:

- Individual school photos

- School trips, activities and events

- Your child’s Arbor profile for internal use

- Celebrating achievements in the school newsletter

Please follow the instructions below to update your preferences.

Early Pickups

A little reminder to all our families — if your child needs to be collected early from school, please let the school office know in advance so they can plan accordingly. You’re welcome to let your child’s teacher know too, but the office team will be the ones arranging the collection.

Please remember that all parents and trusted adults collecting children must sign them out using the Inventry monitor on the left. This helps us keep our safeguarding records up to date.

Please also note that early collections for reasons other than medical appointments will need to be authorised by a member of SLT- thankyou for your understanding with this.

BVP Talent Show 2026!

We are pleased to announce the date for the BVP Talent Show for 2026 which will be held at the Cadbury Theatre on Friday 2nd October. 

There will be two performances:

Reception, Year 1, 2 & 3: 09:30–11:15

Year 4, 5 & 6: 13:15–15:00

Each class can enter up to two acts, with each act lasting no longer than 3 minutes. Teachers will be holding auditions over the next two weeks and by Thursday 24th, children will know if they’ve been selected to perform. We really want all children who are keen to perform, to have the opportunity, so if there are too many acts to fit into the time available, we will look to combine some acts. This has worked brilliantly over the last two years and we've had some unusual by excellent combinations! 

If your child is chosen, any music, video or backing tracks should be emailed to Mr Rogers at marogers@bournvillevillageprimary.org.uk in an accessible format by Tuesday 29th September. Costumes and equipment can be brought in on the day of the show.

Even if your child isn’t performing, all children will attend their Key Stage’s show to support their friends and classmates.

Families of performers are warmly invited to attend. To help us manage space, we kindly ask that no more than 4 adults per performing child attend - tickets will be distributed once the programme is confirmed.

A Message from Ms Walker-Bailey our Attendance Ambassador:

Welcome back and hello to all our new Reception families!

I’m Katie Walker-Bailey and I’m BVP’s Attendance Ambassador. You’ll see me around school in the mornings helping to support our families with attendance and punctuality. My role is to work alongside you, offering help and guidance if there are any difficulties affecting your child’s attendance.

If there are ever any circumstances that are making it tricky for your child to attend school regularly or arrive on time, please come and have a chat with me. I’m always happy to listen, offer advice and see how we can help. I’m also here to help make sure families have the information they need, including advice around childhood illnesses. I have included a link to ‘Is My Child Too Ill for School?’, which is a really useful guide to help you decide whether your little one is well enough to come into school.

In the afternoons, I switch hats and work as the SEND Assistant supporting our SENDCo, Bethany Prottey, with administration and helping with the day-to-day organisation around SEND support.

I’m really looking forward to getting to know our new families, so please do come and say hello if you see me around school.

Eco Group Fundraising

A big well done to our Year 5 Eco Group, who took part in the Bournville Community Picnic yesterday! They sold handmade bracelets, cakes and pre-loved gifts to raise money for our school and local environmental projects.

The children also created colourful posters to raise awareness of how we can all help look after our environment.

We’re delighted to share that they raised just over £150, which will be split equally between the school and Friends of Bournville Park.

What a fantastic achievement! Well done, Year 5!

EMMPOWER Returns!

Following the fantastic success of last year's EMMPOWER After School Dance & Wellbeing Club, we are delighted to be offering the club again this year.

Children thoroughly enjoyed taking part in a range of dance and wellbeing activities, building confidence, developing new skills and having lots of fun with friends.

Throughout the year, pupils worked hard to learn routines and explore creative movement, this gave them a wonderful opportunity to perform some of what they learnt for parents and carers.

The club provides a welcoming and supportive environment where children can express themselves through dance while also developing positive wellbeing strategies, teamwork and self-confidence.

Magical Maths

We have 4 places for our Year 5& 6 Magical maths Club which starts Wednesday 16th September 15:30-16:30. If you would like to reserve your place and have not already done so, please visit our website or call 0121 392 7475 today. 

In the Summer Survey some of you mentioned the disparity between classes and year groups with the number of trips and visits.

So this year we have ensured all classes and year groups have the same opportunities:

Over the course of the academic year there will be...

-one visitor/ experience

-one local (and free to families or cheap!) trip

-one trip to a place of interest further afield which may have a larger cost implication. (Year 6 will also have the end of year residential trip.)

We try to minimise the cost of trips for families and try to keep them to around £20 per pupil, often subsidising the cost with money we've raised in school from lettings. 

Teachers will aim to plan one of these events per term.

We hope this gives you a good idea of what's coming up and ensures that all children are having similar opportunities.

We are thrilled to announce that we have been selected to take a group of 30 children to perform at the Town Hall for World Children’s Day (November 20th).

The theme of World Children’s Day 2026 is INCLUSION, FOR EVERY CHILD- Birmingham – A Place Where Everyone Belongs

We are going to be selecting and working with a group of children to bring children’s rights to life through music, dance, drama, art and creativity. We can't wait to be part of this unforgettable celebration of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child!

Welcome Back

Welcome back everyone! A big hello from the PTA, especially to the new reception families that have joined BVP, we are looking forward to seeing you on Sunday 13th for the picnic in the hall and duck race. Ducks are available to buy on Arbor for anyone who is unable to make it and we'll announce the winner in the next newsletter

Bournville Heritage Day

Our wonderful alumni are once again opening a cafe in the George Hall this Saturday(12th) for Bournville Heritage day. They will be serving drinks / cakes, so come and say hello. 

It is valuable experience for them, that they may talk about when applying for jobs, further education and volunteer positions.

School Shop

We are hoping to open the school shop next Friday(18th) weather dependant, so look out for an email confirming. We have lots of good quality uniform and books ready for you to look through and the ice creams will be fully stocked hoping for the last rays of summer!

And finally...

Despite it being the end of the school week, the George Building will continue to be busy over the weekend with our involvement in the Bournville Heritage Day tomorrow and the Duck Race for our Reception families and children on Sunday. We are looking forward to seeing lots of you over the next two days!

SkillVille Holiday Camp – Bookings Now Open!

SkillVille is back for another action-packed holiday camp at Bournville Village Primary School!

Expect plenty of games, cooking, creativity, outdoor activities, team challenges and lots more, with each day offering something different. Our camps are run by experienced education professionals and are all about giving children a fun, safe and welcoming place to spend their school holidays.

Places can be booked for individual days, so families can simply choose the dates that work for them.
