Welcome to your newsletter for week ending June 19th

It's been a warm and sunny end to the week with plenty going on, in and around school. Two of our Year 6 classes have been out on their residential with the remaining class going next week- when all classes have been, we will do a round up of the activities they've been up to.

With diaries filling up with end of year events, please keep a close eye on the website calendar and the regular updates in the newsletters. We appreciate that things can feel rather hectic at this time of year and that families are juggling various commitments. We hope that by giving you plenty of notice, you are able to plan accordingly. As always, any feedback on this topic is appreciated.

It's been wonderful to see children collaborating to pool ideas for different clubs and activities at school. In the last week or so, we've had children setting up a lunchtime Michael Jackson Club, children creating informed and detailed plans and proposals for getting the Orchard area and planters looking tip top, and a group of children keen to start a campaign to raise awareness of the problems associated with littering, particularly the impact of plastics on our environment, locally and world-wide. We love seeing this kind of activity and desire to make a difference and will always encourage our children to take action around topics they feel passionate about. Keep it coming!

Appointments During School Hours

We are finding that parents arrive to collect children for appointments that the school office has not been informed about, often because the information has been passed directly to a class teacher.

To help us ensure a smooth and timely collection process, please call the school office to let the team know of any appointments that require early collections.

Clean Air Day Event

On Tuesday, our Y6 Eco Ambassadors took part in a Clean Air Day Event at the Birmingham City Council House. Along with several other schools, they participated in a carousel of activities linked to promoting clean air zones and carbon-free school travel through games, quizzes and art activities.

As part of the day, the Y6 pupils had also designed a 'zine'; a short booklet designed to share information about clean air around schools, and entered them into a competition. Out of all the entries, we had a winner! Congratulations to A, who won some fabulous prizes (the backpack, not the adorable puppy).

Yr2 Ukulele Concert

We are incredibly proud of our Year 2 pupils for their fabulous ukulele concert today. The children performed with great enthusiasm and confidence, showcasing all the hard work they have put into their learning this year. Well done, Year 2 – you were fantastic!

Y6 Taskmaster Maths

For fans of hit TV show 'Taskmaster', this week in Y6 has shown some creative maths problem-solving!

Alex Horne set the children the task of building the tallest freestanding tower they could, using only paper and tape and the power of teamwork. This also utilised the maths skills of measuring and comparing heights, using shapes to build strong structures and solving problems and improving ideas. Here are some fantastic examples from our pupils in 6M!

Our Action Plan for working towards our assessment in February for an assessment for the Gold standard for Rights Respecting Schools, is looking pretty full! We have a working party of teachers, a teaching assistant, senior leaders, a Governor and a parent. If you are keen to get involved with any of the work we are doing, please have a look at the action plan on the RRS website page here.

Next week we will be on WEEK 3 of the menu.

You can pre-book meals in advance on Arbor till the end of the academic year (Arbor>> Meals>> Meal Choices Available>> Select Meal Choice)

They were polite, considerate, welcoming and attentive; they are a real credit to you and we were super proud of them all.

Enjoy the sunshine over the weekend folks, take care of each other and we look forward to seeing you back on Monday.

Safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children is the responsibility of everyone in our school and at all times we consider what is in our children’s best interests. We work to ensure our children are safe and cared for and by doing this we are protecting their health and development and preventing them from harm. If we are worried, we will raise concerns, share information, and take prompt action with the aim of ensuring families receive the right help at the right time.
