Welcome to your newsletter for week ending June 12th

It's been another busy and productive week at school with Bourn View Care Home residents visiting on Tuesday, our Paralympian Ayaz in school on Wednesday (see below for more details) and then class photos and the whole school photograph today; we will let you know when they are available for you to purchase.

All children came home today with a booklet with details of their new class teams- please let class teachers know if yours has gone missing and we can replace. Some of you will notice that there are still some staffing gaps- we will keep you posted as soon as these vacancies are filled.

Another plea for considerate parking please- we know that mornings can be hectic but please be considerate of our neighbours; we have had reports of families not being able to move off their driveways to get to work etc. Please help by either walking to school or parking further away from school.

The weather is pretty changeable at the moment which leads to children taking jumpers and coats off during playtimes- please ensure these items are named so that we can return clothing to their owners.

Appointments During School Hours

We are finding that parents arrive to collect children for appointments that the school office has not been informed about, often because the information has been passed directly to a class teacher.

To help us ensure a smooth and timely collection process, please call the school office to inform the team of any appointments that require early collections.

Attendance Armadillo

This week, the attendance armadillos were handed to...

⚽ Incredible World Cup Maths Facts
  • The Ultimate Goal Fest: The highest-scoring World Cup tournament in history happened in Qatar (2022), where a staggering 172 goals were scored across 64 matches. That is an average of about 2.69 goals per game.
  • Blink and You'll Miss It: The fastest goal ever scored in a World Cup took only 11 seconds! Hakan Şükür scored it for Turkey against South Korea in 2002.
  • A Massive Crowd: The biggest attendance ever recorded for a single World Cup match was 173,850 people at the Maracanã Stadium in Brazil in 1950. That is enough people to fill nearly 2,000 school assemblies at once!
  • Teenage Champion: Legendary Brazilian player Pelé is one of the youngest players to ever play in a World Cup match, stepping onto the pitch in 1958 at just 17 years and 235 days old.

School Class Photos

We are delighted to say our class photos today were a great success, and the children all looked very smart. Information on how to order your child/ren’s class photo will be emailed to parents over the coming days, so please keep an eye on your inbox for further details.

Year 2 RE Visit

On Wednesday and Thursday morning, Year 2 visited Birmingham Central Mosque to learn more about the religion of Islam.

The visit was part of the Religious Education and Personal Development Curriculum at BVP. The children were shown around the mosque by the tour guide and learnt lots of new vocabulary and facts, as well as being treated to refreshments at the end of the visit.

The guide commented on the excellent behaviour and questions the children were asking. Well done Year 2 for representing BVP!

ActivKids Athlete Visit and Fundraising Success!

We were delighted to welcome Paralympian Ayaz Bhuta to school as part of our ActivKids fundraising event.

Throughout the day, children took part in a range of physical activities before hearing Ayaz share his inspirational story. The children thoroughly enjoyed meeting him and were captivated by his determination, resilience and positive attitude. His message about working hard, overcoming challenges and never giving up left a lasting impression on many of our children.

A huge thank you must go to all of our families for their incredible support. Thanks to your generosity, we raised a fantastic £3,103.19! This money will be used to purchase new physical activity equipment and resources, helping us to provide even more opportunities for our children to stay active and enjoy sport.

We would also like to congratulate the children who raised £35 or more. As part of their reward, they had the opportunity to have their photograph taken with Ayaz. These photographs are currently being developed and printed and will be distributed to children over the coming weeks.

Thank you once again for helping to make this event such a memorable and successful day for our school community.

Toy donations

Our lunchtime staff are looking for any toy donations. If you're having a clear out for summer and come across the following;

Toy cars

Dolls

Building clocks/ Lego etc.

We would be happy to take this off your hands as long as they are in good condition.

This week in Forest School, the children enjoyed building a den using sticks and other natural materials (and adding a Tarpaulin for the roof). They also worked together to build ‘the longest water slide ever'.

We understand that moving to a new class can feel like a big step for some children and families. Our aim is to make the process as smooth, positive, and reassuring as possible.

To support you at home, we have included additional information and resources below. Please click on the link below to access them.

And finally...

Some of you may be thinking about booking holidays next year (26-27) so to help, we have planned the INSET days - please have a look at the website calendar here for the details.

We hope the weekend is more sunshine than showers. Take care all and see you on Monday.

Safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children is the responsibility of everyone in our school and at all times we consider what is in our children’s best interests. We work to ensure our children are safe and cared for and by doing this we are protecting their health and development and preventing them from harm. If we are worried, we will raise concerns, share information, and take prompt action with the aim of ensuring families receive the right help at the right time.
