Welcome to your newsletter for week ending April 17th
It's been great having the children back in school this week; the summer term has started off with lots of activities in and around school- read on for all the news!
Thankyou to those who popped into school for the open hour after school on Wednesday. We hope this additional opportunity to talk to staff about your children's progress and attainment was useful. We are reviewing this opportunity for next year- we added it in due to parent survey responses (last year) that said we could do more to keep you informed as to how your children are doing. Hopefully the availability of the assessment data on Arbor has helped with this- as always, if you have any thoughts, please do not hesitate to contact Mrs Cooper via head@bournvillevillaeprimary.org.uk
Thankyou also to the 161 parents who completed the Parent/Carer Survey for the Spring term- we will leave it 'open' for the weekend (to see if we can get to our usual numbers of around 200) and then close it so we can analyse the responses and make comparisons with previous surveys- and then of course, make changes where needed. If you have 5 minutes and haven't done so already, please give us your feedback via the survey here. All the headlines and summaries will then be added to our Parent Voice page here.

Attendance Armadillo
This week, the attendance armadillos were handed to...

Year 6 Places of Worship Visit
On Monday, 6M and half of 6B visited a Hindu Mandir in Handsworth as part of their Religious Education and Personal Development Curriculum.
The children were given a talk about Hinduism by Dr Arun, before watching a special prayer called 'Arti' take place in the temple hall. They were then shown the different statues of gods and goddesses and learnt more about each one.
The children behaved impeccably and asked some super questions. Well done Year 6!
Devices In School
We would like to remind all families about our expectations regarding devices in school.
Only Year 6 children who walk home independently should bring a mobile phone into school. Any phones brought in must be placed in the designated box at the start of the day and will be returned to children at the end of the day.
In addition, smart watches should be used as simple timekeeping devices only. Watches that allow children to play games, take photos, send messages, or access the internet are not permitted in school.
We appreciate your support in helping us maintain a safe and focused learning environment for all children.
Class WhatsApp groups
We are aware of some recent concerns regarding messages shared in class WhatsApp groups.
While these groups are set up and managed by parents and are not the responsibility of the school, we kindly ask that all communication remains respectful, appropriate, and considerate at all times.
These groups can be a helpful way to share information; however, we encourage parents to raise any school-related concerns directly with the school, rather than discussing them in group chats.
Thank you for your support in maintaining a positive and respectful community for everyone.
Picture News
We are excited to introduce our new Picture News assemblies, which will take place every Thursday.
These assemblies will help children learn about current affairs in an age-appropriate way, encouraging discussion, curiosity, and a wider understanding of the world around them.
We will also be sharing useful posters on the playground noticeboards, so please keep an eye out for these to support conversations at home.
Digital Ambassadors visit to BT
On Wednesday, our Digital Ambassadors from Y4-6 visited the BT offices in town to take part in a physical computing workshop. They had a fabulous time, learning how to code Microbit computers to run programmes and make a step counter. Then, in the afternoon, the children got hands on with some new Edison robots, programming them to take part in a relay race through a maze! It was a wonderful day of getting stuck into some practical STEM learning, building teamwork, collaboration and investigative skills.
4LS Eco Girls Fundraising
On 29th March our Eco group organised a stand at the Bournville Park Spring Festival.
The girls sold cupcakes, bracelets, books and toys. The Eco group raised and impressive £150 which will go towards more equipment for upcoming school eco-projects and more litter pickers.
Girls, we are so proud of your entrepreneurialism, commitment to your local environment and willingness to give up their own time to support the school.
Handwriting Parent Survey
If you have a moment, please consider completing our short parent survey about the teaching of handwriting at BVP. It can be accessed by scanning the QR code. It is only 6 questions long and shouldn't take long to complete, and your responses will help us shape the development of our handwriting curriculum in school. Thank you!
Amazing Fundraising Efforts for a Charity Very Close to our Hearts...
G (4LS) and E (2T) are running in the Birmingham Mini Run on 02/05/26 and are raising money for the Child Brain Injury Trust.
Every half an hour in the UK, a child or young person will acquire a brain injury. The Child Brain Injury Trust provides information, support and training to anyone affected by this devastating and life changing condition. This support extends to the child, their family and schools/other institutions. https://childbraininjurytrust.org.uk/ It really is vital work and as Tesco rightly tells us, 'Every Little Helps'.

School Meals – Your Feedback Matters!
We are proud to work in partnership with Coombs Catering Partnership to provide high-quality, nutritious meals for our pupils each day.
We are always keen to hear from families about their experiences, suggestions, or any questions you may have regarding our school meals. Your feedback - alongside input from pupils and staff - plays a vital role in helping us continually review, improve, and develop our catering provision.
As always, you are very welcome to direct any queries to the school office. Alternatively, Coombs Catering Partnership offers a dedicated email address for families, where you can:
- Share feedback or suggestions
- Ask questions about menus
- Request information on ingredients and nutritional values
Please contact them directly at mychildslunch@ccpltd.biz and remember to include the name of our school in your email.
Thank you for your continued support in helping us provide the best possible experience for our children.
EMMPOWER Dance
We are delighted to share that our after-school EMMPOWER Dance and Wellbeing Sessions for pupils in Years 3–6 have been running successfully since January 2026.
The club provides a fun and supportive environment where children can enjoy dance, stay active, and develop their wellbeing through movement, teamwork
and creativity.
It has been wonderful to see such enthusiasm and confidence from all those who have taken part so far.
There are still spaces available and we would love for more children to join us. If you would like your child/children to take part, please sign up using the flyer below.
We look forward to welcoming more pupils to the club!
KS2 Girls Football club
Our girls football team are now coached by Kixx!
Kixx are a new provider and we're very exited to be working with them. The girls had a wonderful first lesson and can't wait to continue with their new coaches. We have 3 spaces left for anyone interested. To register your child head to Arbor>> Clubs>> BVP Girls' Football Training.
Depending on how the rest of the year plays out, and interest in the club, we are looking to possibly extend to KS1 in the new year.

And finally...
With the mixed weather we're getting, please ensure your children have a waterproof coat with a hood in school- and please check that their name is written somewhere in it!
We hope you all have a good weekend, that the sun shines and you get to enjoy some quality time with your families and friends.
Safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children is the responsibility of everyone in our school and at all times we consider what is in our children’s best interests. We work to ensure our children are safe and cared for and by doing this we are protecting their health and development and preventing them from harm. If we are worried, we will raise concerns, share information, and take prompt action with the aim of ensuring families receive the right help at the right time.
