Welcome to your newsletter for week ending April 24th

Another busy week ending with two wonderful Values Assemblies. It's always such a privilege to celebrate children who have been spotted displaying our school values. ** A reminder please- we know families may want to take photographs of their children receiving their certificate- please wait until the end of assembly when we can arrange for you to take a photograph, without fear of inadvertently photographing another child- thankyou**

We celebrated our 120th birthday this week- read on for more information.. and a snap shot from the Headteacher's log 70 years ago!

As mentioned before, we have been working on improving our transitions/ pupil movement around school and we can definitely see some improvements! See if your children can remember the four 'rules'! And also as mentioned previously, we are revisiting messages about respectful and courteous behaviour from children regardless of their teacher(s). Thankyou for your support with this.

With four more weeks of this half term, we are starting to look ahead to staffing plans for September. These will be shared with you the week after half term, giving your children plenty of time to get to know their new teachers and for you to make contact if you'd like to.

Read on for more news in and around school this week...

This week, the attendance armadillos were handed to...

๐ŸŒŸ Celebrating L’s Strength and Courage๐ŸŒŸ

We are incredibly proud to share that L has received an award from the Children’s Brain Injury Trust in the “Strength Through Adversity” category. This recognition reflects her remarkable determination, courage and resilience throughout her recovery journey—qualities that have truly inspired us all. It’s been wonderful to welcome L back to school, and we look forward to celebrating this special achievement with her and her friends.

A huge well done to L, and our very best wishes to her and her family—we are so proud of you all. ๐Ÿ’›

Introducing Our Breakfast Club Lead!

Hello! My name is Vandna and I have joined Early Bells breakfast Club this term and Breakfast Club Lead.

I have received an amazing welcome from the wonderful team and all staff at the school and feel very touched. The school feels like a great fit for me as it is warm and friendly.

A bit about me...

I come from a large family and my Dad and his parents (my grandparents) came from east Africa to England in the 60's. They left India when they were young and I am of Indian heritage.

I am a practicing Hindu and values from my faith shape my life such as, doing good deeds (karma), gentleness to all to all (non-violence), believe in reincarnation and freedom of choice.

I have worked in many different sectors including industry, environmental regeneration, social inclusion and the NHS for the last 20 years. I am passionate about self- development and developing others and hope to be a valuable member of the BVP community๐Ÿ˜Š

Lost Items In School office

We have a few lost valuables that have yet to be collected. If your child missing the following items, please come to the school office to collect.

4 Smart watches

5 Purses containing money from previous discos

4 glasses

A travel card

Selling Items and Fundraising in School

We kindly ask for families’ support in ensuring that children do not bring money into school to buy or sell items to one another. We have recently seen an increase in children attempting to sell items for personal gain, which is not permitted. Any fundraising activities must be agreed in advance and organised through Mrs Cooper or Mr King. This helps us ensure that all events are appropriate, inclusive and safely managed.

Vaping Around the School Gates

We ask all members of our school community to be mindful when using e-cigarettes or vaping near the school gates. We have received concerns from parents about vaping at drop-off and pick-up times, particularly due to the number of young children present. We kindly request that adults avoid vaping in and around the school entrance to help maintain a safe, comfortable and respectful environment for everyone.

Yr 4 Maths Competition

On Wednesday afternoon, our fantastic BVP representatives from Year 4 reached the final of the King Edward’s Maths Competition. Competing against 50 schools, they secured a place among the final nine - an outstanding achievement in itself!

Throughout the event, they demonstrated exceptional teamwork, resilience,  and a willingness to challenge themselves at every stage. Their mathematical skills and positive attitude are something we are truly proud of. Although we did not place in the final standings, we could not be prouder of our young mathematicians and the way they represented our school.

Happy Birthday BVP!!

Yesterday Bournville Village Primary (then 'Bournville School') school turned 120 years old! In one of the school logs that sits in Mrs Cooper's room, we found the Headteacher's entry for the school's 50th anniversary! We didn't have cake for the school's birthday this week, but we have marked the special occasion in school over the last two days.

(If anyone can work out what the log says about the weight of the cake, let us know!)

On Thursday this week, our Rights Respecting Schools Ambassadors spoke in the KS1 and KS2 assemblies about the rights that children across the world have. They introduced the Right of the month for the remainder of April and May, which is Article 29 – Goals of Education. This states: “Education must develop every child’s personality, talents and abilities to the full. It must encourage the child’s respect for human rights, as well as respect for their parents, their own and other cultures, and the environment.”

We are very proud of the confidence all children demonstrated whilst talking in the assemblies and their passion for raising the profile of children’s rights.

Thankyou to those who responded to the Parent Carer Survey for the Spring Term- we were nearly up to our usual number of responses with 168 of you taking the time to give your feedback- thank you so much.

Please find the link to the tick box responses and the summary of free text responses on the Parent Voice website page here.

(Thank you also to the parent who reminded us that we hadn't put the Autumn free text responses on the website- they are on there now!)

Next week we will be on WEEK 2 of the menu.

It looks like the weather might be lovely this weekend so we hope you all get to see a bit of sunshine and hopefully a moment or two in the fresh air. Take care all- looking forward to seeing you on Monday.

Safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children is the responsibility of everyone in our school and at all times we consider what is in our children’s best interests. We work to ensure our children are safe and cared for and by doing this we are protecting their health and development and preventing them from harm. If we are worried, we will raise concerns, share information, and take prompt action with the aim of ensuring families receive the right help at the right time.
