Welcome to your newsletter for week ending March 20th
The recent sunshine has been welcomed here in school and children have been enjoying their break and lunchtimes outside, after what seemed like a whole month of 'wet play'! We finished the week with our Values Assemblies (well done to the children named below) and a super fundraising event on the playground led by a group of our children- thankyou if you hung around at the end of the day to support this, the school shop or just enjoyed the opportunity to buy an ice-cream!
We are very excited to let you know that over the Easter holiday, the new climbing frame will be installed, along with some new playground markings- we can't wait to see the improvements which are possible due to the wonderful fundraising efforts of our PTA, additional revenue generation from us as a school and individuals and groups of children who took it upon themselves to find ways of raising money... every penny counts!
The PTA were also hard at work with discos this week- we hope children enjoyed them! Thankyou to all the parent and alumni volunteers who did such a brilliant job; your time, care and efforts are hugely appreciated.
The Guitar and Ukulele Concert this afternoon was brilliant- children from Year 3 to Year 6 gave confident performances which were enjoyed by all. Well done to the children who took part (for some this was their very first 'public' performance) - we are incredibly proud of you all.
We have a super busy last week of the Spring Term- too many events to list, so please look at the website calendar using the link here.

Celebrating Cultures Day (27/03/26)
We are looking forward to our "Celebrating Cultures Day" on Friday March 27th.
Year 4 will be performing the dance they have learnt in their SAMPAD sessions. This will commence at 2.45pm. Parents are welcome to attend. Despite what we have communicated to families over the past few weeks, we have now made the decision for SAMPAD NOT to film the event, to ensure all children can participate and enjoy the performance.
Finally, parents are welcome to bring food to share into school at the end of the day- we'd really love to see as many families as possibly, staying at the end of the day, to come together, share food and drink that has is of special significance to you, and to celebrate the wonderful diversity we have in our BVP family.

KES Maths Enrichment Workshop
Over the last three weeks, some of our Y6 pupils have had the opportunity to attend some 'Stretch and Challenge' maths workshops at King Edward's School. Their mathematical brains have certainly been tested - along with Mr Hall's - through looking at all different kinds of problems, from digital roots in multiplication tables to number patterns including square, cube, prime and triangular numbers, and even more!
LittleHist History Quiz
On Wednesday, eight intrepid historians from Y5 and Y6 made the journey to Camp Hill School for their annual LittleHist history quiz. We competed against lots of others schools from across the city in 9 epic rounds, from Famous Faces to History in Emojis and even the Olde Mathematicks Challenge! The children can be very proud of their efforts, and even though we didn't manage to place in the top 3 teams this time, our Y5s did come home with the award for the Best Mascot, won by their team bear 'Winston Fur-chill'. Well done to everyone who participated!
Year 3 & 4 Recorder concert
On Wednesday afternoon the KS2 recorder groups treated Years 3,4 and their parents to a end of term performance. Through their dedication and hard work, they have made a lot of progress and this concert allowed them to showcase their skillset and talent. The concert was well received; we are really proud of both recorder groups and are keen to see what they’ll perform next.
A special thank you to Miss Lau for her participation in the concert!
Attendance Armadillos
This week, the attendance armadillos were handed to...
We have been a 'Silver' Rights Respecting School' for some time now.. and we are now looking to gain the 'Gold' recognition. Work in school is focused on...
Teaching and Learning about rights: for the whole school community through training, curriculum, assemblies, topics, focus days/weeks, displays.
Teaching and Learning through rights: by modelling rights respecting language and attitudes and making strategic decisions that involve students.
Being ambassadors for the rights of others: developing as rights respecting citizens
Achieving 'Gold' would be fantastic, however the real purpose and aim of this work is to improve our focus on a respect for rights that nurtures strong and supportive relationships between children and adults, and between peers, which in turn leads to more positive language, attitudes and actions- contributing to a truly rights respecting school community.
We will be sharing information and keeping you updated through our newsletters, but if you'd like to know more, and/or would like to join our steering group, please get in touch with Mrs Cooper via [email protected]
Upcoming RE Trips
To enhance our Religious Education curriculum, we will be arranging visits to local places of worship for Years 1-6.This will enable the children to broaden their understanding of the 6 major world religions; Christianity, Islam, Judaism, Buddhism, Sikhism and Hinduism. By visiting these places, children will gain hands on experience and understanding of what each building looks like, the customs/traditions and will take part in activities to learn more about the religion.
We are also using the visits as opportunities to support children's personal development and to promote the British Value of ‘Mutual Respect and Tolerance’ of those with different faiths and beliefs. For children who are currently in Reception and Year 1, the idea is that they will visit a different place each year and will have visited 6 different places of worship by the time they leave Year 6.
On Wednesday 25th March, Year 1 will be visiting St Francis Church in Bournville to learn more about Christianity and the traditions celebrated around Easter. They will be given a short lesson by the church's Education Leader and then will be taking part in an exciting photograph scavenger hunt! The children will also be able to ask questions to deepen their understanding of Christianity. Each class will be taking part in a 1 hour visit during the day.
Next week we will be on WEEK 2 of the menu.

Safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children is the responsibility of everyone in our school and at all times we consider what is in our children’s best interests. We work to ensure our children are safe and cared for and by doing this we are protecting their health and development and preventing them from harm. If we are worried, we will raise concerns, share information, and take prompt action with the aim of ensuring families receive the right help at the right time.
