Welcome to your newsletter for week ending December 12th

What a fabulous end to the week- carols on the playground this afternoon was wonderful and so were our Values Champions Assemblies this morning. Earlier in the week our Year One children took part in a wonderful nativity performance at St Francis; it really was a magical site!

Over the last few newsletters we have reminded families that we are a nut-free school. Unfortunately last week a child had nut based snacks- the impact of this cannot be underestimated. We have children in school who have life-threatening nut allergies and we cannot risk any trace of nuts, no matter how small. Aside from the dangerous medical reactions, the anxiety for children with allergies and their families is greatly, and unnecessarily heightened when nuts are brought into school. Thankyou for your support with this.

As we head towards the last week of term, we are asking you all to spend 10 minutes completing the Parent/ Carer survey by clicking the link here. Please do have a look and give us your feedback- we know we have a much better chance of getting things as good as they can be for our children, if we work in collaboration with families.

This time last week the many amazing PTA volunteers where preparing for the Christmas Fare. Thank you to the many families who visited on Saturday- it was a brilliant event which really showcased the amazing BVP school family. The effort that goes into the Christmas Fare cannot be underestimated and we are incredibly grateful for all those who gave up their weekends to ensure the event went smoothly. The discos this week are another example of the PTA crew going all out to make sure as many children as possible can take part in additional events at school. Thankyou to the core team and the many, many parents who gave up their evenings to help at one or more of the discos- your efforts do not go unnoticed. And finally today with Carols on the Playground- a wonderful team of volunteers helping the event to be an enjoyable as possible for all. Thankyou PTA, in all your many forms.

Choir Visits

The choir have been busy this week with three visits. They entertained residents at Bournville Grange Care Home who enjoyed clapping along to some firm favourites, then they moved on to the Royal Orthopaedic Hospital where staff and patients joined in with some traditional carols. Finally a visit to Mondelez with plenty of staff enjoying the children's singing!

Well done Choir and team... and good luck for your concert with the Birmingham Festival Choral Society Christmas Concert!

Headlice Reminder

We've had a report of headlice in KS1 so, we would like to ask that families regularly check children's hair and inform the school if any head lice are found so that a further reminder can be sent home to all parents. It is only with regular checks and persistent grooming that we can help to contain this ever-increasing problem.

Head lice are a common and irritating problem however with regular combing in the morning and evenings, head lice can often be prevented without the use of chemicals or special shampoos.

Afterschool Clubs

To keep all families in the loop the following afterschool clubs will NOT be on next week:

Tuesday- KS2 Art Club

Wednesday- Orchestra

Friday- KS1 Art Club

All other clubs will be on as normal

**We will be sending an email out some time next week with all information about any available slots for clubs in the spring term and how to sign up.**

What a week! Christmas Fair on Saturday with around 1000 people through the door. Then Yr1 disco on Tuesday (80), Year 2/3 Disco (140) and Year 4/5/6 Disco (200) on Thursday and then around 200 Parents for the Carols in the Playground this afternoon.
That is a staggering number, and we are delighted that so many of you feel able to enjoy the fun things we put on around School for all!
Particularly on Saturday it was once again a magical event and the 60 Year 6 kids did so well getting stuck in. The success of the Fair has definitely secured a full programme of Year 6 Leavers celebrations at the end of the academic year. Well done Year 6! We were also supported by 40+ Parent Volunteers from all years and a whole bunch of alumni coming back, particularly from Kings Norton Girls School and Sixth Form to make the event happen and we are very grateful for all your support.

The Carols this afternoon was well attended, than you so much for your generosity if you donated when picking up your tea, coffee and mince pies.
We are left with just the Christmas Raffle to round off the 2025 PTA calendar, with a full review at the AGM in January.
Christmas Raffle
Tickets are now available on Arbor for the Christmas Raffle Draw £1 per entry. The draw will take place on 19th December.
PTA Gameplan
As a reminder the PTA is a registered charity with the Charity Commission and is a separate entity to the School, with Trustees (currently David Roberts and Amy Cooper) and a formal Committee (nominated each year) who are responsible for the charitable activities of the PTA.
The PTA Committee is ALREADY supported by 10-15 parents who form the PTA Core Team and then by +60-70 Parents that volunteer regularly at the discos and other events, and then by all Parents of the School as demonstrated by sending your kids to the disco, or buying Christmas cards, or coming the Fair ... It is quite amazing what the whole BVPS Family can achieve when there is common ground and shared outcomes of making fun things happen around School, and the bi-product is being able to donate surplus funds to the School to help them create shared experiences and invest in the School in the areas that they choose to.
Each year we need to hold our AGM to comply with the Charity Commission, and nominate and appoint Parents to the PTA Committee.
For the last few years David Roberts has been nominated and appointed to the role of PTA Chair, and Veronica Lapena has been nominated and appointed to the role of PTA Treasurer. Both David and Veronica are due to leave the School in July 2026 (both have youngest currently in Year 6) and as such we are establishing a handover plan to incoming PTA Committee members.
There is already a plan for handover from David to Becki Newman (youngest currently in Year 3) who will be forming her team over the coming months. If you know her, please support her where you can. If you don't know her, please continue to support the PTA activities as you are doing now!

Veronica will be handing over to Magda, and we are delighted that Magda is will take care of the money! Madga's youngest in is year 4, so it won't be long before we look for another parent to step into Magda's role!
Many of the current PTA Core Team are also leaving in July 2026 and so we are seeking any Parents who understand what we are doing around School and come forward to be part of the evolving PTA Core Team.
Above anything else the School SLT, Teachers and Estate Team continue to provide an immense amount of support to whatever PTA team is in place - because they see the benefit of doing so to the School, the kids, and the BVPS Families.
If you want a good thing to continue, then please do provide the support where you can and consider the opportunities available to get more involved!
Forthcoming Dates
19th December - Christmas Raffle draw
16th January - PTA AGM, straight after school, George Hall (come and hear the review of 2025 and the plans for 2026, including succession planning to keep fun things happen around school well into 2030 and beyond).
Thanks, as ever!
