Welcome to your newsletter for week ending November 14th

It's been an wet and windy day to finish the week but the weather hasn't prevented us from having a busy and productive time. Over the course of the week our Reception children have been on their first school trip to All Things Wild. Through assemblies throughout the week we have been talking about Bullying and how we can all work to create a school that is free of this type of behaviour using this year's theme- 'Power for Good'. Next week all children from Year 1-6 will be involved in performances and workshops from a visiting theatre group who will be reinforcing the 'Power for Good' message. We add some of the the resources we use in our assemblies to our website so you can see what we are covering. Just go to 'Learning' and 'Assemblies' or click here to view some of the materials we use to get our important messages across.

We are already thinking about the new year and 'Jobs January'! Please see the information further down the newsletter for more about this annual event in the BVP calendar where we invite family members to come in to school and talk to groups of children about their professions. Please have a look and complete the form if you can help us raise our children's awareness of a range of jobs and opportunities.

Honouring Remembrance Day at BVP

Today, our school community came together to mark Remembrance Day with a moving tribute. Two of our talented students, B and U, performed the Last Post and Reveille live for all classes. Their performance was streamed across the school, creating a moment of reflection and respect for everyone.

B and U were outstanding—professional, courteous, and truly brilliant. Their contribution made this years’ service incredibly special, and we are so proud of them.

We recorded the performance so families can share in this memorable occasion. You can watch this here.

Thank you to B and U for representing BVP with such dignity and skill.

Pupil Passwords

A friendly reminder to our families, if you have set a pupil collection password for you child there is no need to inform the school office if you have arranged for another trusted adult to collect your child as all class teachers check passwords at dismissal.

If you have not set a password, please email [email protected] with your child's name, class and collection password for the school office to add to your child's record.

Jobs January

We are excited to be launching our “Jobs January” for 2026 – an opportunity for our children to learn about the world of work directly from you!

Throughout January, we are inviting parents and family members to visit school and share insights about their job, career journey, and experiences. Each session will last around 30 minutes and will be delivered to a group of children who have expressed interest in the area of work.

If you would like to take part, please complete our short Expression of Interest Form by Sunday 30th November. Once we have gathered responses, we will send out a booking form so you can choose a specific time slot.

Your involvement will help inspire our children, broaden their horizons, and show them the many exciting paths available in the future. Click here to complete the form.

Thank you for supporting this initiative – we can’t wait to hear your stories!

Year 4 Fire Visit

Year 4 enjoyed a fantastic visit from the Fire Service last week.

The firefighters delivered an engaging and informative session about fire safety, shared insights into their daily work and even demonstrated some of their equipment. The children asked excellent questions and came away with a deeper understanding of how to stay safe and the important role firefighters play in our community.

Reception Campfire Feast

To mark the 5th of November, YR children enjoyed toasting marshmallows by the campfire at forest school. We all agreed they were very tasty!

Litter Picking

Here's a little snap of some of our weekly litter picking helpers who work around the school perimeters and our local park each Friday lunchtime, helping to clean up our local area. We are VERY proud of them and their commitment to looking after our local community.

Pre-booking meals Plea!

Please can we urge ALL families to make sure any dinner options (packed lunched, school dinner/ halal school dinner) are pre-booked on Arbor.

Since the start of the year we have noticed an outstanding amount of meal options that have not been booked. This means the school office spend their morning adding around a 300 meal options daily!

To pre-book your child's meal option go to Arbor>> Meals>> Meal Choices Available>> Select day & meal option>> Confirm

The space will be allocated on a first come, first served basis. So, act quick to avoid disappointment!

Young Voices 2026

We are gearing up for yet another Young Voices concert! Year 5 and 6 pupils in the BVP choir are set to perform at the BP Pulse Live arena in Birmingham on 8th January 2026.

When and Where: 8th January 2026

Who: Year 5 & 6 (No Year 4s as it is very noisy and long event with a late return to school)

Tickets

If your child is set to be part of the performance, you will have received an email earlier this week explaining how to purchase tickets and merchandise. The deadline for these orders is today, so if you have already signed up to the “Parents Music Room” on the Young Voices website and wish to buy tickets, please do so as soon as possible.

If you miss the November 7th deadline, this means you can no longer purchase Young Voices tickets at the special schools' rate via the Parent Music Room. However, please see the below information on how to buy tickets after this date:

What to do if you missed the 7th Nov deadline

  • Contact the arena box office: You will need to wait until the tickets are officially released to the venues and then purchase them directly from the specific arena's box office. Young Voices will notify schools and parents when this has happened, so do not contact the box offices before then.
  • Be aware of seating: Tickets purchased from the arena box office may not be seated with the rest of your child's school group, as the school block booking will have already been finalised.
  • Act quickly: Even at the arena box office, tickets are limited and generally sell out quickly.

Merchandise

Some of your children have already received their T-shirts however, if you have recently paid for merchandise and are yet to receive it, Young Voices will be posting them to school as and when they receive orders. Once school receives these items, we will hand them out to your child to take home.

Again, if you have missed the 7th November deadline you can still purchase Young Voices t-shirts separately from the general YV Shop, although you may have missed the school delivery option.

SEND Lived Experience Surveys Now Open on Birmingham’s Local Offer

BCC want to hear from young people and parent carers of children with SEND.

Two new Lived Experience Surveys are now open on Birmingham’s Local Offer, one for young people with SEND and one for parent carers of children and young people with SEND.

For young people: BCC want to know what life is like for them in Birmingham, at school, at home, or in their community to get a sense of how they’re feeling and what matters most to them.

For parent carers: BCC want to hear about your experiences of support and services for your child or young person. Your insight helps BCC understand what families are experiencing and how things could be better.

Please see the links below:

The surveys are multiple-choice and hopefully won't take up too much of your time, but the feedback will make a big difference to improving services for children, young people, and families across Birmingham.

If you have questions or need support completing a survey, you can contact [email protected]

And finally...

We are hoping to (virtually) see lots of you at our Parent Voice meeting next week for this half term. The agenda is open and we can discuss any aspect of 'behind the scenes' school life that you are interested in. Please email [email protected] if you are joining us and let us know if you have a particular topic you'd like to discuss.

We hope tonight's rain doesn't cause you too many problems and that you all have a safe and peaceful weekend with your families.

See you on Monday!

Safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children is the responsibility of everyone in our school and at all times we consider what is in our children’s best interests. We work to ensure our children are safe and cared for and by doing this we are protecting their health and development and preventing them from harm. If we are worried, we will raise concerns, share information, and take prompt action with the aim of ensuring families receive the right help at the right time.
