Welcome to your newsletter for week ending October 17th
We've reached the end of the penultimate week of the first half term of the year - we can't believe how quickly the year is going! On Monday we welcomed our friends from Sampad who gave Years 2,4,and 5 a fabulous musical and dance celebration of Diwali. On Tuesday we were visited by three stone age gentlemen in their very own stone age house! Yesterday we had Year 5's first 'Stay and Learn' session of the year- thankyou to all the family members who were able to come along. Reception and Year 1 classes have also been out and about in the Village, learning all about the features of our local community and the people in it that help us. Next week we have the 'Stay and Learn' sessions for all other year groups. It will be great to see lots of you there, but please don't worry if you can't make it- we have these scheduled for each half term.
In school, staff have been working on increasing opportunities for developing children's oracy and using debate as a strategy for this. In your children's planners you will find some 'sentence stems' to help them phrase their points of view and respond to the views of others- do have a look at these so you can try and include them in conversations at home when there might be opportunities for friendly debate!
In the information below, you'll notice that we have our photograph days next week - please note that if your children has PE on Wednesday or Thursday, they need to come in their uniform, not PE kits please.
As always, do keep and eye on the website calendar (under 'Families') for events further on in the year.

Anti-Bullying Ambassadors Take the Lead!
This week, a group of our fantastic pupils attended an Anti-Bullying Ambassador Training Day — an inspiring event designed to empower young people to take an active role in making schools kinder and safer places for everyone.
During the training, our ambassadors explored what bullying looks like, learned how to spot the signs, and discussed practical ways to support their peers. They also took part in workshops to develop their confidence as leaders and plan how they can promote positive relationships across our school community.
The day was full of energy, teamwork and reflection, and our ambassadors returned bursting with ideas to make a real difference. Over the coming weeks, they’ll be working with staff to launch new initiatives, raise awareness, and ensure that everyone at Bournville Village Primary School feels safe, included and respected.
We are incredibly proud of our ambassadors for the maturity, enthusiasm and compassion they showed throughout the day. They are already proving to be fantastic role models and champions of kindness within our school.
Early Collections
We understand some families inform class teachers at drop off regarding early collections but sometimes this message doesn't reach the school office. Going forward please can parents also call or email the school office if they are collecting their child early on so everyone at BVP is in the loop!

Stone Age Visitors!
On Monday night, 3 very convincing stone age gentlemen set up camp in our woodland area and on Tuesday, our year 3 classes leant all about this time in our history.
The children really loved it; it consolidated and extended the learning they had done in class, it linked well to our values of respect and collaboration and children got to handle lots of tools and other artefacts.
The actors were impressed with the children’s knowledge and enthusiasm. After spending time in the tent, one of our children said "that was the best history lesson ever!" We certainly have our work cut out as we plan how to keep impressing the children as these actors did!

Sponsored Swim Success – £217 Raised for Our Climbing Frame!
We’re absolutely thrilled to share that the Year 6 sponsored swim at Linden Road Pool was a huge success!
Our brilliant swimmers showed incredible determination and teamwork as they completed their 1-mile challenge — all in support of our new school climbing frame. Their efforts have inspired the whole school community, and we couldn’t be prouder of them.
Thanks to their hard work and the generosity of friends, family, and supporters, they raised a fantastic £217! This contribution brings us one step closer to creating a fun, active space for all our pupils to enjoy.
A massive thank you to everyone who donated and cheered them on. What a wonderful example of child-led fundraising and school spirit!

We are celebrating some BVP mathematical success this week! Last Friday, four of our fantastic Y4 mathematicians went to King Edward's School to compete in a maths competition against six other local schools. The children did amazingly, putting their problem-solving skills to the test, and earned an incredible 3rd place! This means they have qualified for the Grand Final, which will take place after Christmas. Well done, team - keep up the good work!
In other news, we can announce the winners of the first two Battle of the Bands of Rocktober 2025. This friendly competition shows which KS2 classes have been practicing the most on TT Rock Stars so far.

Take care all - see you on Monday for the last week of the half term!
Safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children is the responsibility of everyone in our school and at all times we consider what is in our children’s best interests. We work to ensure our children are safe and cared for and by doing this we are protecting their health and development and preventing them from harm. If we are worried, we will raise concerns, share information, and take prompt action with the aim of ensuring families receive the right help at the right time.
