Welcome to your newsletter for week ending October 3rd
Another busy week at BVP with all sorts of activities happening in and around school! On Tuesday we had our first Campfire Reading event. This was a huge success; the weather was kind and families seemed to enjoy the three sessions over the course of the evening. Lots of you gave very positive feedback and as a result, this will definitely be appearing on the school calendar again!
There have been lots of maths related activities going on too; parent workshops for Numbots and TT Rockstars, a Rocktober launch Day and Pattern Day in Reception.
Also on Tuesday, we held our first Parent Voice meeting of the academic year. Notes from the meeting and future dates can be found on the website under 'Families'- 'Parent Voice' or using the link here. Remember these meetings are open to all and can cover whatever topic you would like. Please let us know if there's something you would like us to add to a future agenda (email [email protected]), or just come along to a meeting to find out more about the 'inner workings' of BVP!

Year 5/6 Football Team Success!
We are thrilled to share the fantastic news that our Year 5/6 football team recently took part in the BCFC Football Tournament. They showed brilliant teamwork, determination and skill throughout their matches.
Their hard work paid off as they went on to win their group, which means they have now qualified for the Finals Morning on Wednesday 12th November.
This is a wonderful achievement, and we are so proud of the way the children represented our school. We can’t wait to support them as they take on the challenge of the finals!
Well done, team!
Lost Property
If you or your child have lost a gold necklace, please contact the school office.
Also, a pupil has lost a pink water bottle. If your child has mysteriously come home with one, or you think you know where this might be, again, contact the office.
Thanks for your ongoing support!
TTRS/Numbots dressing up day
We have had an amazingly busy week of maths at BVP! On Monday, children and parents from Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 joined us to get to know our new maths program, Numbots. On Wednesday, our Reception and KS1 children came dressed as robots, while our KS2 children rocked out to celebrate the relaunch of TT Rock Stars! And on Thursday, our Y3 and Y4 children and parents joined us for our TTRS workshop. It has been fantastic to see the children's enthusiasm for maths this week! Keep an eye out for certificates coming home next week, as well as the results of our TTRS Battle of the Bands competition...

You Said... We Did...
Our priorities for the year ahead are based on lots of factors- these include your views and experiences of school. We shared some details of our School Development Plan in the Welcome Back meetings last month and full details at the Parent Voice meeting this week. Please have a look on the Parent Voice page on the website, or use the link here to see all the headlines and if you want to find out more, please get in touch with Mrs Cooper via [email protected]

Pastoral Parent Workshop- Monday 13th October -‘How to Support your Child with Anxiety.’
Thank you to all those parent and carers who have signed up for the workshop. Unfortunately, we are now at capacity for this event. We will be offering an additional session early in the Spring term for those who have been unable to attend.
Emotion Iceberg Activity
The emotions iceberg is a metaphorical representation of the concept that there are visible and hidden aspects to our emotions. It suggests that what we express or display on the surface is just a small part of the broader emotional experience we have internally.
The iceberg is divided into two main parts:
Visible Emotions(the ones that show on the surface)
- These are the emotions that show and what can be seen.
- Visible emotions could include happiness, anger, sadness, excitement, fear, surprise, and disgust.
- They are usually accompanied by recognisable facial expressions, body language, and vocal cues.
Hidden Emotions(the ones that are hidden under the surface)
- These are the deeper and less visible emotions that lie beneath the surface.
- Hidden emotions are often more complex, and influenced by personal experiences, memories, beliefs, and thoughts.
- Examples of hidden emotions include shame, guilt, jealousy, anxiety, vulnerability, insecurity, loneliness, and grief.
- Identifying hidden emotions requires self-awareness, and empathy towards oneself and others.
The emotions iceberg emphasises that people’s emotional experiences go beyond what can be seen at face value. It encourages individuals to delve deeper and acknowledge the underlying feelings that may not be immediately apparent. By understanding and recognising the hidden emotions within ourselves and others, we can foster empathy, emotional intelligence, and more meaningful connections.
Pastoral Drop- In Session
Just a reminder, we have a Pastoral Drop- In session every Monday afterschool 15:30- 16:30 in The Cottage. Parents can access The Cottage through the year 3 doors.
If you have concerns regarding you child please don’t hesitate to contact us by calling the office or emailing [email protected]. There is also lots of useful information and advice on our school website https://www.bournvillevillageprimary.org.uk/Page/Detail/our-pastoral-team
Dyslexia Awareness Week
It is Dyslexia Awareness Week next week. The British Dyslexia Association has put together resources and information for the week which can be found on their website: https://www.bdadyslexia.org.uk/news/dyslexia-awareness-week-2025
As well as promoting Dyslexia awareness next week, these resources are useful for families throughout the year.
Next week we will be on WEEK 3.
You can pre-book meals in advance on Arbor till the end of the academic year (Arbor>> Meals>> Meal Choices Available>> Select Meal Choice)
Reminder: Even if your child is a packed Lunch, parents will need to book that lunch option on Arbor!

Each week, we will be recommending a book for you and your child to read at home.
Reception
A book that explores feelings through colour.
Year 1
If you enjoyed this at the Campfire Reading, then why not get it yourself!
Year 2
A brilliant read for all children.
Year 3
A highly recommended book for its humour and silly catchphrases.
Year 4
A funny book that leans on the dreams of many brothers and sisters out there!
Year 5
A looked at poet in year 5 here at BVP.
Year 6
An award winning book back in 2019, that inspires children to be anything they want to be.
Christmas cards
Children have been completing these in class this week. Nudge them if you are hoping to buy cards, mugs, coasters, tags with their design on to check that they have completed it.
Campfire Reading Sessions
We supported the School in running the Campfire Reading sessions on Tuesday 30th September. Attended by over 250 kids and parents in three session, the event worked really well - with (a real, wood burning!) campfire, hot chocolate, biscuits, stories from various members of staff it had a great atmosphere. So much so we might repeat it at Christmas! Watch this space.
School Shop
School Shop - If the weather stays reasonable during October, we will try again, so look out for communications. Keep those donations coming though - good quality preloved uniform, books, toys, DVDs... we are starting to collect for Christmas Fair.
Christmas Fair
We have also set the dates for the Christmas Fair - Saturday 6th December. We will be working with Year 6 to build the team that are going to deliver the event, but, like previous years, please do pop the date in your diary now so that the event is well attended and keeps the team busy - after all - it is what you would want to see happen when your kids are in Year 6.
We have released the Christmas Fair designer/maker expression of interest form https://bournvillehsa.wordpress.com/christmas-fair-6th-dec-2025-parent-designer-maker-booking-form/ for those that are interested in a stall at the fair. We have got space for 14 stalls so submit your form to help us plan and have already had plenty of interest.
And finally...
It has been wonderful seeing so many families in school this week, and thankyou too for supporting our 'events' with robots and rock stars!
Hope you all have a peaceful weekend and we look forward to seeing you and your wonderful children on Monday.
Safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children is the responsibility of everyone in our school and at all times we consider what is in our children’s best interests. We work to ensure our children are safe and cared for and by doing this we are protecting their health and development and preventing them from harm. If we are worried, we will raise concerns, share information, and take prompt action with the aim of ensuring families receive the right help at the right time.

Going On In Your Area...
