Welcome to your newsletter for week ending June 27th

Well it's been a different Friday and although all staff have had a busy day, we've missed the children and all the usual Friday activities and celebrations!

Today teachers and TAs have been working on topics such as the Zone of Proximal Development which is all about knowing where children are starting from and then ensuring there is the right amount of challenge in the activities we plan. Providing challenge is something families have given feedback on and it's something we feel we have really improved in, over the last year- as always, still more work to do! We've also been looking at how we help children to strengthen their oracy skills with presentation/ speaking at length opportunities, our new feedback and marking policy (with an emphasis on immediate feedback), and next steps following our recent external review of our SEND provision.

This week we have welcomed our newest members of the BVP family with their first sessions in the classrooms, ready for September and also last night we held our last Diversity Working Party meeting of the year. We are almost there with our Diversity and Anti-Racism Policy and this should be ready to share with you, for feedback in September. Thankyou to the parents who have supported us over the year with this.

Sporting Success at Bournville Village Primary!

What a fantastic week of sport it’s been at Bournville Village Primary School, with our children showcasing not only their sporting talents but also their determination, teamwork, and positive spirit.

Our Key Stage 2 girls football team put in a brilliant performance during their finals night, demonstrating real resilience, teamwork and growth throughout the competition. Their commitment to improving with every game was clear to see, and they should be incredibly proud of finishing in a strong 4th place. Their intent to compete with pride and determination shone through in every match.

Our Year 5/6 cricket team also had a week to remember, finishing second in the league and securing silver medals. Their hard work, focus, and excellent sportsmanship were evident in every fixture. The team approached the tournament with the intent to play fair, support one another, and challenge themselves - and their success is a reflection of that mindset.

Capping off the week in style, our Year 5/6 boys football team were crowned league champions! With a string of outstanding performances, they lifted both medals and the league shield. The team set out with a clear intent: to play together, push themselves, and represent the school with pride - and they certainly delivered!

A huge well done to all of our pupils who took part - we are so proud of you all. Thank you as well to the staff and families who supported the children along the way.

Sport at Bournville Village Primary is thriving!

Helping Children Transition to a New School or Class

Transitioning to a new school or class is a significant milestone in a child’s life. Whether it’s moving from one class to another class or moving from Primary school into Secondary school. This time can be filled with a mixture of excitement and anxiety. Understanding and addressing the range of emotions children may experience is crucial in helping them navigate this change smoothly.

Common Feelings During Transition

Children may experience a wide array of emotions when faced with a new school or class. These can include:

  • Excitement: Anticipating new experiences and opportunities.
  • Nervousness: Feeling unsure about the new environment and expectations.
  • Curiosity: Eager to learn about the new school, teachers, and friends.
  • Overwhelm: Adapting to many changes at once can be daunting.
  • Anxiety: Worrying about fitting in, making friends, or academic performance.
  • Confidence: Feeling ready and capable of handling the new challenges.
  • Sadness: Missing old friends and familiar surroundings.
  • Insecurity: Doubting their abilities to succeed in the new environment.

Remember, every child is unique, and their response to transition will vary. Patience, empathy, and proactive communication are key to ensuring a positive experience for all.
