Welcome to your newsletter for week ending June 6th

It's been another busy week in school with three 'Stay and Learn' afternoons, Adopt-a-Chef activities and a Year 5 trip to Stratford! Thankyou to parents and family members who came along to see Year 1,2 and 3 in action this week and to the parent volunteers who helped Year 5 with their trip (hopefully the weather was kind to you!)

With the changeable weather we're having at the moment, children are taking off coats, cardigans and jumpers throughout the day. The result is that at the end of last term, we had an enormous amount of lost property which was all unnamed and has now had to go to a clothes bank. We know uniform is expensive and having to replace items is not great for our environment so PLEASE ensure items are named, then we can rehome everything.

We have given details about the transition days when we shared the staffing plans. Please refer to the calendar on the website by clicking here to make sure you have all the information about ALL the events coming up in the next few weeks.

Children and families had a wonderful afternoon investigating geographical journeys. Children have been learning about continents and the countries within them. There were junk modelling activities and lots of tasty food at the 'Around the World' Cafe!

Spelling Bee Champ!

One of our BVP pupils N took part in the International History Bowl European Championships in Vienna over the half term. N finished second in the Elementary Age Division. N was also the youngest finalist ever, competing against others who were all three or four years older!

"We see this as a fantastic achievement, not just for N personally but also for BVP, which he represented amongst contestants from schools with dedicated history teams, such as Eton and SIS Basel." - N parents. Well done N, BVP are so incredibly proud of you.

Author Visit on Wednesday!

We are pleased to announce that Nicola Baker, author of the Whistledown Farm Adventure series, is visiting us on Wednesday morning.

She will be talking to children in Year 4 and 5 (with an invitation to Year Six children if they would like to join. This will be followed by an opportunity to talk to Nicola and sign books.

A Whistledown Farm Adventure is beautiful farm adventure series inspired by Nicola Baker’s own stories from farm life with her husband Matt Baker. Nicola’s aim is to encourage children to stretch their creative muscles and encourage them to engage with their reading, writing and the outdoors. Nicola’s event at school on Wednesday will explore what summertime on the farm looks like, from making hay to shearing sheep. She will even include clips from their very own woodland wildlife cameras that influenced the story.

If you would like to pre-order a book, parents/families of children in Years 3, 4, 5 & 6 can do this via the school shop on Arbor - the titles are individually listed and priced. Please note, the purchase of books is available to all children in Key Stage 2, however Nicola will only be presenting to Years 4 and 5 (and children in Year 6 if they would like to attend) due to capacity limitations.

A Whistledown Farm Adventure

A warm and beautifully observed farm adventure series from Nicola Baker, star of Our Farm in the Dales. Perfect for readers 8+ and fans of Jacqueline Wilson, Michael Morpurgo, Dick King Smith and The Snow Foal. With stunning illustrations from Rachael Dean throughout. It's summer at Whistledown Farm and there's plenty for Ava to do – from helping to shear the sheep to baling the hay. But then she meets a litter of border collie pups and suddenly the sunny days get a lot more complicated . . .
Growing up, Nicola spent hours with her nose stuck in a book or filling notebooks with stories and sketches. After a successful career as a physiotherapist and raising two children she’s now come full circle and is writing again.
Nicola lives on a smallholding with her husband and two children. When she’s not mucking out chickens or feeding the sheep you’ll find her writing adventure stories for children.

‘Baker is a gifted writer, and her bucolic adventure harks back to classic farm stories such as those written by Dick King Smith and Michael Morpurgo’ The Bookseller

The Smartphone Dilemma

Thank you to the parent who signposted us to this very insightful and thought-provoking video. We've raised this topic before and we hope you find this resource a useful point of reference.

In our parent/ carer survey some of you commented about receiving too many emails from us so we are making a conscious effort to reduce these and put as much information as possible on the website and in the weekly newsletters. This way families have one or two places to go to, for all the information.

We know that not everyone reads the newsletter(!) Please tell your friends to look at them too!

After half term we will be on Week 2.

Don't forget to pre-book your child's meal option on Arbor! (even if your child is having a Packed Lunch

Top Tip: When selecting your meal choice, tick "Pick for all future available dates" to confirm your selection until the end of term!

See you all on Monday.

Safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children is the responsibility of everyone in our school and at all times we consider what is in our children’s best interests. We work to ensure our children are safe and cared for and by doing this we are protecting their health and development and preventing them from harm. If we are worried, we will raise concerns, share information, and take prompt action with the aim of ensuring families receive the right help at the right time.
