Welcome to your newsletter for week ending May 23rd

We've ended the week and the very short half term with a sunny afternoon and hopefully lots of happy children ready for their school break! In our assemblies today, we had the pleasure of celebrating those children who have been recognised for going over and above with dealing with challenge. In our final half term of the year our focus value will be 'Collaboration'.

This afternoon our 'Bulls in the City' Bull headed off to his final destination before being placed on the trail in the City Centre-read on for more details!

Thankyou again for all the responses to the latest parent/carer questionnaire. As well as the 'quick' responses, lots of you gave detailed comments in the final section. We have summarised these and they can be read on our Parent Voice page of the website or by clicking the link here. Not every comment is represented however it should give you a feel of the topics that are on families' minds. If you left your name on the form, we will be in touch after half term.

The comments generally back up what we know about our areas of improvement, which is reassuring! However we know that the important bit is actually doing something about the comments, not just collecting views. We promise we are listening and the key, repeated areas will form part of our School Development Plan next year. Although we have half termly Parent Voice meetings (which anyone can turn up to), please remember that your views and thoughts are welcomed at all times- and if you're unhappy about something, please let us know so we can do something about it.

Donation to school

This week, school has received an incredibly generous cash donation of £500 to support our Attention Autism plea from last week's newsletter. The donation was kindly given by Yulia and Ilias Vazaios, whose son has re-joined BVP in KS2.

This donation, and all the others that we receive, go a long way to bridging the gap in how we can more effectively resource and support SEND, Autism, Pastoral and SEMH needs within school. Thank you the the Vazaios Family and to all the other families that donate resources, finances and time to our school throughout the year.

If you are looking to donate to school in any way, please contact the school office and we can support you.

No Dogs on the School Site Please

A reminder that ONLY guide/ assistance dogs are allowed on the school site. Whilst many of us may own and love dogs, there are some children who are really frightened if they have to walk past a dog. Please bear this in mind of you are thinking of walking your dog when dropping off or collecting children. Thankyou.

Our ECO Group would like some help!

Our ECO group are having a litter picking session around the Bournville Village area on Tuesday 3rd June from 9:30-10:15am. If you'd like to join us, please let Mrs Cooper know by calling or emailing. We'd love some help!

Then on Thursday 12th June from 10-11:30am, we are are tackling some of the raised beds around school. So if you would like to help us with a bit of gardening (and have your own tools!), please let Mrs Cooper know- the more the merrier!

Our Girls' Football Team Head to the Finals!

A huge well done to our Girls’ football team, who have shown incredible teamwork, resilience, and a passion for the game throughout the recent tournament. The intent behind the competition is to promote confidence, enjoyment, and increased participation in girls’ football—and our team truly embodied these values.

After topping their group with a string of strong performances, they have earned their place in finals night. We’re incredibly proud of their efforts and can’t wait to cheer them on in the final stage!

Introducing Fudge!

We think you'll agree that our 'Bulls in the City' Bull (named 'Fudge' after children across the school voted!) is looking fantastic. The design team created the idea of colouring in large mandala inspired patterns with a specific range of colours. These were completed by children across the school. The patterns were then reduced in size and pasted onto the bull. We then added some black hooves, tail and horns and some Indian bangles that had been donated.

Fudge is now resting in a warehouse before travelling to his final destination somewhere in the city centre. Once the trail goes live, we'll let you know!

Just a reminder that all remaining school trips for the year are available to pay via Arbor...

Headlice

We've had a case of headlice in Year 2 and would like to remind our families of the many ways to prevent the likelihood of any future cases please can we make sure...

- Children are not sharing hair accessories such as headbands, hats, clips etc.

- Regular checking for nits using a nit comb

- Treatment issued as soon as lice are detected

Parking

Please can we remind our families that use cars to travel to school to be courteous of the road markings, driveways and curbs as we have had a few complaints regarding the parking at drop-off and pick up times.

We appreciate that there is limited parking space around the school but if we could be more mindful of our local residents and businesses once we return after half term that would be really appreciated.

We are working hard to connect and build relationships with all of our families. Since September, we have been holding Pastoral Drop in Sessions on a Tuesday 3.30pm-4.30pm, for parents and careers to speak to the pastoral team or to visit our rooms.

To ensure that we are able to facilitate the needs of as many of our families as possible we would like to find out if a different day of the week would be preferred. We would be extremely grateful if you could submit your preferences using the link below.

We know that as we begin Summer Term 2 there will be lots of talk around transitions and many emotions being experienced by our school family. To help support all of our Year 6 children with Transition, we will be running a weekly Drop-in session  on Wednesday lunchtimes in The Cottage from 12.00pm-13.00pm.

Just a quick reminder that myHappymind Places is available on the Parent App – Places helps children to understand their emotions and develop effective self-regulation strategies. It empowers children to identify how they are feeling, recognise the impact emotions have on their minds and bodies and apply self-regulation tools.  If you require paper copies of the resources please contact the team and we will have these sent out to you pastoral@bournvillevillageprimary,org,uk

Coming Up... Coffee Afternoon

And finally...

As we start the half term break, we are reminded of the importance of those we love and of the strength of our amazing school community. Thankyou for being part of it- whether you have fleeting moments on the playground at drop off and pick up, or if you are lucky enough to be able to engage in all we do, you are all incredibly important to us. Thankyou for your support and kind words over this half term- and thank you too for the prompts and nudges... we appreciate it all!

Take care all- we hope you get a moment of rest next week and some extra time with those wonderful children of yours.

Any queries over the week, please email [email protected]

See you on the 2nd June!

Safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children is the responsibility of everyone in our school and at all times we consider what is in our children’s best interests. We work to ensure our children are safe and cared for and by doing this we are protecting their health and development and preventing them from harm. If we are worried, we will raise concerns, share information, and take prompt action with the aim of ensuring families receive the right help at the right time.
