Welcome to your newsletter for week ending May 16th
This week we have been talking to children in assemblies about bravery, courage and the power of a positive mindset when facing challenges. A specific challenge for our Year 6 pupils has been their SATs which they completed yesterday. They have been absolutely amazing and we are super proud of every single one of them. Today the Year Six team of children and staff enjoyed a well-deserved picnic lunch outside in the Woodland Area.
As we speed towards half term at the end of next week, we start thinking ahead to all the activities happening in and around school in June and July. Please keep and eye on the website calendar for dates such as the next Stay and Learn sessions, discos, Open Evening and Year 6 Leavers' events. The link is here. The vast majority of dates have been on the website since last summer so we hope that you have appreciated the forward notice.
Last week we said we would share the 'additional comments' from the Parent/ Carer survey- I'm afraid I (Mrs C) haven't had time this week- I promise it will go on next week, as well as the 'You said... we did'.

As we have had a few cases of chicken pox in KS1 this week, I thought it would be useful to share the NHS guidance with you and to attach a reminder about good respiratory and hand hygiene to share with your children.
Chickenpox is usually a mild illness, and children usually get better by themselves. Children with chickenpox should stay away from school, until all the spots have formed a scab. This is usually 5 days after the spots appeared.
Some children and adults are at higher risk of serious problems if they catch chickenpox, they include:
- people who are pregnant
- newborn babies
- people with a weakened immune system
These people should seek medical advice as soon as they have contact with someone suspected of having chickenpox or they develop symptoms of chickenpox.
Children who have had chickenpox recently may develop complications if they also catch scarlet fever (group A streptococcal infection). Parents/guardians should remain vigilant for the following symptoms in children who have had chickenpox:
- a persistent high temperature
- the skin around chickenpox blisters becoming red, hot or painful (signs of infection)
- joint pain and swelling
- your child’s symptoms not improving or getting worse
If you are concerned about the symptoms above, please seek medical advice as soon as possible.
Further information on both infections can be found at:
Chicken pox: https://www.nhs.uk/Conditions/Chickenpox/
Scarlet fever: https://www.nhs.uk/conditions/scarlet-fever/
As always, please do not hesitate to get in touch via [email protected] if you have any questions or concerns.

A Huge Well Done to Our Year 6 Football Team!
A massive congratulations to our Year 6 football team who did us proud at the final's day held at St Andrew’s Stadium! The team put in a fantastic performance, making it through the group stage and only narrowly missing out in the semi-finals. It was a brilliant experience for all involved, and we couldn’t be prouder of their teamwork, determination, and sportsmanship throughout the day. Well done, team!

Thank you to those of you who were able to attend our Pastoral Coffee Afternoon this week. As we are now in the summer term our focus was transitions. We know that this can be a time of mixed emotions for many families, and although this can be a time of excitement, for some it can bring feelings of anxiety, whether this is a move from Reception to Year 1 or Year 6 to secondary school.
We have added the resources shared and some links to useful websites below, these have also been added to our webpage along with some additional information- click the link here- Bournville Village Pastoral Support
If you have any concerns regarding your child’s transition please don’t hesitate to contact the team [email protected] or come along to one of our Tuesday Drop In sessions between 3.30pm-4.30pm.
Y4 MTC Parent Workshop
On Monday 19th May, Y4 parents are invited to attend a Multiplication Table Check (MTC) workshop in George Hall from 3.30-4.30.
The workshop will provide information about the Y4 children's upcoming tables check, and why times tables are such an important skill in Y5 and Y6. It will be run by Mr Hall and members of the Y4 team will be present if you have any questions. Children are welcome to attend, and the school laptops will be available for children to login to TTRS, play some games and show parents their heatmaps.
National Numeracy Day
On Wednesday 21st May, BVP will be taking part in National Numeracy Day!
Across school, children will have the opportunity to take part in live lessons and complete fun activities in their classrooms linked to numeracy. There are also resources available to get the whole family involved in NND, which this year focuses on money. There will be lots of exciting things for the children to look forward to!
Next Week we will be on Week 3.
Don't forget to pre-book your child's meal option on Arbor! (even if your child is having a Packed Lunch)
Top Tip: When selecting your meal choice, tick "Pick for all future available dates" to confirm your selection until the end of term!
