Welcome to your newsletter for week ending January 10th
Welcome back to school and 2025! It’s been great having the buildings back full of children and we hope that any initial worries about returning to school have been ironed out and children have ended the week feeling positive. Thank you Reception parents for bearing with us whilst we dealt with heating problems this week- the safety and comfort of our children (particularly our youngest children) is incredibly important to us and we hope that the optional attendance offer for yesterday and today gave you some reassurance.
This week we officially welcomed Mr. King our new deputy head teacher, read on below for a short message from him. He has been getting to know lots of children this week and many of you will have seen him on the Woodbrooke Road gate in the morning. Next week, he will be on the Linden Road gate, to greet our reception and KS1 families.
We are also very pleased to announce that Mr Hall has been appointed as our new Assistant Head Teacher. This will take effect from the start of the Easter term where Mr Hall will have one day of release from his current classroom and then in September, he will be out of the classroom completely and will be leading Teaching and Learning in Key Stage 1. Congratulations to Mr Hall on this appointment.
You may know that our ‘Little Angel’ who suffered life changing injuries after an incident last year returned to school yesterday. This was a magical moment for the entire BVP school family and we are over-the-moon that she has been able to re-join her class so soon. Thank you again to you all for your tremendous support whilst we navigated this very difficult time.
On that note, due to the circumstances around her injury we would like to point out, particularly for families of older children in school, we need to be extremely sensitive to the situation ‘L’ and her family found themselves in. With this in mind please, can you ask/ remind your children that any reference to guns or shooting or gun gestures which mimic shooting actions will not be tolerated in school. Mr. King talked to Key Stage 2 children about this on Wednesday but we would ask that families reiterate this message.
Thank you to the many parents who offered their time to come into school and talk to our children for Jobs January. We have been overwhelmed with the number of offers and I will be getting back to you as soon as possible to arrange a convenient time for you to come in to talk to interested groups of children.
Thank you to those who completed the Parent/ Carer survey at the end of last term. We are about 100 responses short compared to previous surveys- we appreciate this was probably due to the timing of the release of the survey. If you haven't completed it yet, please spend 5 minutes doing so using the link here.
We ended last term with an enormous amount of lost property. Please ensure all items are named, particularly coats, jumpers, cardigans, hoodies and fleeces as we cannot return I items of uniform without this.
Finally, please keep an eye out on the calendar within the website under the ‘Families’ tab as there are lots of events coming up. Families of children in the Year 4 and five- please note there has been a slight change to the date of your next stay and learn session.

Hello from Mr King!
I would like to extend my heartfelt thanks to all the children and parents for making my first week at Bournville Village Primary School such a wonderful experience. Your warm welcome has truly made me feel at home, and I am excited to be part of this incredible school community.
A little bit about me: I have joined as the new Deputy Head Teacher, bringing with me a wealth of experience in education. I have previously served as a Deputy Head Teacher and a Special Educational Needs Coordinator (SENCO), roles that have deepened my commitment to ensuring every child has the opportunity to thrive and succeed.
Outside of work, I am a semi-professional footballer and enjoy spending time with my two young children. I am passionate about supporting Bournville Village Primary School on its wonderful journey and am looking forward to working with you all to create the best possible environment for our children to grow and flourish!
Thank you, Mr King

Safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children is the responsibility of everyone in our school and at all times we consider what is in our children’s best interests. We work to ensure our children are safe and cared for and by doing this we are protecting their health and development and preventing them from harm. If we are worried, we will raise concerns, share information, and take prompt action with the aim of ensuring families receive the right help at the right time.
