Parking on Woodbrooke and Thorne Road

We have received several complaints from residents about the parking situation at drop off and pick up times on Woodbrooke and Thorne Road.

Parents/ Carers are continuing to park on double yellow or zigzag parts of the road and blocking driveways. This is inconveniencing residents trying to leave their house and parents trying to take their children to school.

We are urging parents to be mindful when dropping off and collecting their children. We understand the changes to the road can be an inconvenience, but we also have to keep everybody’s safety in mind.

Thankyou

Year 4 Football

A huge congratulations to our Year 4 footballers who reached the 'finals' of the Kings Norton District Cup competition this week, finishing a very commendable 5th place.  When you consider this was a competition open to all schools in the area, it just proves how well they played and how hard they worked to get to this stage.  Excellent teamwork was in evidence as were our school values.  Very well done boys - a superb effort!

Parents' and Carers' Working Party

After almost a year in place, we are reviewing our Values, Behaviour and Relationships Policy. As parents and carers were involved with its creation, we would like to give you an opportunity to be involved again. Alongside this element of school life, we are determined to get to a point in school where we do not see any bullying behaviour at all. So, we would also like your involvement in reviewing our Anti-Bullying Policy.

We are meeting on Friday 26th April 2024 at 1.30pm. If you would like to attend and contribute to the working party, please let us know by completing the form (please click on the link) https://forms.office.com/e/UCBbSwuph3. If you cannot attend but would like to share your views prior to the meeting, please add your thoughts to the form or request a call from Mrs Cooper. This way we can make sure all contributions are heard and considered.

Bringing sweets in for birthdays

Please check with your child's teacher before sending them to school with sweets to share with the class on their birthday. This is due to various children's allergies and dietary preferences. Also, please be mindful that we are a nut-free school, so any products contains nuts are not allowed on school property.

Thankyou for your understanding and support.

Birmingham City Vs Cardiff City

Some of our pupils and staff members attended the Birmingham City Vs Cardiff City match last Saturday. We've heard nothing but great things from everyone who went. We are so happy that we were gifted this opportunity for our pupils to create more fond memories of their time at BVP.

Annual Afternoon Concert Friday 10th May Year 3 , 4 and our less experienced musicians in Years 5 and 6 will be invited to take part in our annual afternoon concert. This concert will feature our flute, clarinet, oboe, bassoon, brass, violin, and percussion players. We may also be able to feature some keyboard players but this will be confirmed after Easter. As yet we're not quite sure what time the concert will start but probably around 2.15pm. All parents and carers are welcome to attend. Letters of invitation will be emailed home after Easter.
Annual Evening Music Concert Tuesday 2nd July This concert will feature our Year 5 and 6 Musicians (not guitars and maybe some keyboard players), our school orchestra, and Year 5 and 6 choir members. Our annual music award will be presented at this concert. Letters of invitation will be emailed after Easter. All parents and carers are welcome to attend.
Choir and Orchestra to perform in the Symphony Hall as part of the Youth Proms. Monday 8th July Thank you to the choir members who have confirmed they wish to take part in this concert. We will be travelling by coach to the Symphony Hall for an afternoon rehearsal and parents must pick their children up from the Symphony Hall after the concert. The concert is scheduled to finish at 9.15, however last year we finished at 9.45! For those children in the school orchestra only (not in choir) we will send you an email after Easter, asking whether you wish your child to join the choir on the coach or whether you are happy to take them to their rehearsal at the Symphony Hall. Last year parents were asked to bring their orchestra members for 4.15pm. The children will then join the school choir and stay with school staff until after the concert. I will confirm the exact drop off time when details are received from SFE. Tickets will be available via https://bmusic.co.uk/whats-on and we will let you know when they are on sale.

Interview With Author Stewart Foster

This week the author Stewart Foster visited our school. It was a wonderful opportunity for the pupils and our Year 6 journalists seized the chance to ask him a few questions.

Why did you decide to write a book about diseases and social anxiety?

I found it intriguing because I found out about a boy in America who couldn't go anywhere, so that's what gave me the idea.

If you could write one more children's book why and what would it be?

A book about four boys travelling across Scotland and slowly discovering things about themselves.

Quote of the Week

"Anyone who has never made a mistake, has never tried anything new." - Albert Einstein

As we are looking at Keep Learning as one of our "Ways To Wellbeing", we thought this quote from Einstein fit perfectly. Keep learning, keep making mistakes and keep trying new things BVP, your mind can only grow.

And finally...

Thankyou for all the communication you send our way. We really do believe that by working together, we can give our children the very best educational experience possible. We are always around to listen so please don't hesitate to pop in, give us a call or get in touch via [email protected]

We hope you all have a chance to relax at some point over the weekend and we look forward to seeing you on Monday.
