What a superstar!

Norah in 5M was recently chosen from a long list of city wide nominations to play her first cornet solo as part of Services for Education solo recital evening.

As you'll hear, Norah's rendition of 'Close Every Door to Me' from Joseph was fantastic. Well done Norah, we're so proud of you.

Our school song

Music is a central part of school life at Bournville Village Primary. Before you even step foot in our school building, you will hear the carillon bells that sit atop our school, ring out across Bournville.

Extra-curricular music

We offer a variety of extra-curricular opportunities both during and after the school day. These include our

Year 4-6 choir and Year 6 handbell group (supported by the Friends of Bournville Carillon). Our choir regularly takes part in concerts at the Symphony Hall and at the World Resorts Arena as part of Young Voices. They, along with the hand bell group, perform to many local community groups throughout the year.

Year 4,5, and 6 Choir

Choir takes place on a Monday 3.30 - 4.30 in George Hall. If your child wishes to join choir please email Mrs Vaughan on music @bournvillevillageprimary.org.uk. There is a cost of £15 per term to cover the costs of our accompanist.

Concerts so far this year have included the Intergenerational Carol Concert at St Francis Church on December 10th, Year 5 singing for the Memory Cafe at St Francis Centre, Year 6 singing for residents at The Quadrangle and the absolutely amazing concert with Young Voices on 27th January,

We have strong links with local, regional, and national music organisations. Children are encouraged and supported in becoming members of these orchestras and choirs and if needed will receive help with auditioning. We are immensely proud of what our children achieve musically within our community and the legacy they leave our school.

Peripatetic music lessons

Music curriculum

The Charanga Musical School Scheme provides teachers with week-by-week lessons for each year group in the school from ages 5-11.

The learning within this Scheme is based upon: Listening and Appraising; Musical Activities — creating and exploring; and Singing and Performing. Everything is clearly and simply explained and the planning support is extensive.

Each Unit of Work comprises the of strands of musical learning which correspond with the national curriculum for music:

  1. Listening and Appraising
  2. Musical Activities
    1. Warm-up Games
    2. Optional Flexible Games
    3. Singing
    4. Playing instruments
    5. Improvisation
    6. Composition
  3. Performing

All musical learning in this scheme is built around the Interrelated Dimensions of Music: pulse, rhythm, pitch, tempo, dynamics, timbre, texture, structure and notation. These dimensions are at the centre of all the learning.

Music in action

Year 6 Violin Trio

3 boys in Year 6 recently formed a violin trio. They organised this themselves, and as you'll hear the results are amazing. Here is a video of their recent performance at The Birmingham Hospital's Choir concert in St Francis Church, Bournville.
