Welcome to your newsletter for week ending April 12th

It's been a busy and enjoyable first week of the Summer term! Cookery in Year 3, Discos and the Easter Bonnet Parade this afternoon have made it a full but incredibly enjoyable five days. Thank you to all families who gave their time to support the events, particularly the discos- we would be lost without your help!

Through our assemblies and classroom activities we have celebrated Eid and also marked Autism Awareness Day and it's been fantastic to celebrate our wonderfully diverse school family.

It's a full newsletter as usual so I'll keep my bit short- just a couple of things to point out... please do engage with the parent/ carer survey below which asks you how you would like to better engage in school life. Also, please read the plea to book/record your child's school meal choices on Arbor (even if they always have sandwiches, by marking this on the app it saves the office team hours of checking!).Thankyou!

Arbor Update

We are so happy that most of you have taken to Arbor and are now able to purchase items from the school shop and book your child(rens) meal.

We have notice that there are still quit a few parents who are not booking their child(rens) meals. To access this, please follow the steps below:

Quick Actions >> Meals >> Summer Term Lunch >> Select your meal choice (we would also like parents to select the packed lunch option if that is what they have- Parents will not be charged for selecting this option as it is purely for number/ report purposes)

We've also had parents ask us how to access the school shop on Arbor. To access this, please follow the steps below:

Quick Actions >> School Shop >> You should see a list of different items to purchase; water bottles and bags, PTA events, school trips etc. >> Select the item you would like to purchase >> Checkout

If you are still having trouble accessing Arbor, please contact the school office and we will do our best to help.

At BVP we are continually reviewing how our parents & carers can become more involved in ‘school life’ and experience activities alongside our children. Please have a look at and complete this survey to let us know what opportunities you might be interested in.

As you can see from this photo, U (our school trombone player) decided to celebrate his love of music with an amazing Easter Hat. U explained that he wanted to ensure that all the instruments were stuck on, so they were being played correctly, even the piano works! U-you have done an outstanding job challenging yourself and we are super proud of you.

Some music dates for your diary:

Event Date Information
Annual Afternoon Concert Friday 10th May Year 3 , 4 and our less experienced musicians in Years 5 and 6 will be invited to take part in our annual afternoon concert. This concert will feature our flute, clarinet, oboe, bassoon, brass, violin, and percussion players. We may also be able to feature some keyboard players but this will be confirmed after Easter. As yet we're not quite sure what time the concert will start but probably around 2.15pm. All parents and carers are welcome to attend. Letters of invitation will be emailed home after Easter.
Annual Evening Music Concert Tuesday 2nd July This concert will feature our Year 5 and 6 Musicians (not guitars and maybe some keyboard players), our school orchestra, and Year 5 and 6 choir members. Our annual music award will be presented at this concert. Letters of invitation will be emailed after Easter. All parents and carers are welcome to attend.
Choir and Orchestra to perform in the Symphony Hall as part of the Youth Proms. Monday 8th July Thank you to the choir members who have confirmed they wish to take part in this concert. We will be travelling by coach to the Symphony Hall for an afternoon rehearsal and parents must pick their children up from the Symphony Hall after the concert. The concert is scheduled to finish at 9.15, however last year we finished at 9.45! For those children in the school orchestra only (not in choir) we will send you an email after Easter, asking whether you wish your child to join the choir on the coach or whether you are happy to take them to their rehearsal at the Symphony Hall. Last year parents were asked to bring their orchestra members for 4.15pm. The children will then join the school choir and stay with school staff until after the concert. I will confirm the exact drop off time when details are received from SFE. Tickets will be available via https://bmusic.co.uk/whats-on and we will let you know when they are on sale.

Happy Friday everyone, it’s been a joy welcoming all of our children and families back into school this week.  Just a short message from us to say that Pastoral Groups will begin next week, letters for the children who will be attending have now been emailed to parents/carers.

Please contact us if you require any additional information or would like to arrange a meeting.

Have a wonderful weekend and we look forward to seeing you all on Monday.

An Interview With Year 3 Cooking Class

This week, one of our school journalists (OV) has interviewed our Year 3 pupils who were doing a cooking activity to celebrate Eid.

What healthy foods have you been making?

Today we have been making healthy salads.

Could you tell me why you have been making salads?

It's because we have been focussing on vitamins and alternatives to unhealthy treats.

What ingredients have you used?

We used cherry tomatoes, lettuce, radish and carrots.

If you could say one or two things that you really enjoyed about this activity, what would it be?

"I thought it was very fun and enjoyable, I would definitely do it again!"

Welcome back! We hope everyone had a good Easter break.

Back with a bang with over 500 kids enjoying their respective discos this week. Y4/5/6 win the prize for the longest conga EVER to be seen! Thanks to the 60+ volunteers that helped them have a safe time. On this basis we think everyone has got to grips with "Arbor School Shop" online or on their mobile now and know where to find PTA items in the future.

Today, we had our rearranged Easter Hat Parade which we hope you all enjoyed! It was great to see so many parents at school to see all our pupil's impressive Easter bonnets. We loved having the whole school out at the same time and will definitely be adopting this format in future years!

For Year 6 Parents - we are now turning our attention to building momentum around the Leavers Celebrations. If you are keen to influence the plans and get involved please do text 07974331102 or start talking to others in the playground and I'm sure they will know how to get you involved.

Quote of the Week

"Challenge yourself; it's the only path that leads to growth." - Morgan Freeman

As one of our school's core values is 'challenge' we thought this quote from Freeman was perfect!

And finally...

Today marks the end of the BVP journey for our SENDCo of the last 15months. Mrs Baylay is moving on to pastures new and we want to say a huge thankyou for all the help she has given to our children, families and staff during her time here. We are sure you will want to join us in wishing Mrs Baylay very best wishes for her next venture. Thankyou Tracy- we have loved having you as part of our school family.

Wishing all our Muslim members of the school family a belated Eid Mubarak - we hope you all have a super weekend and we are looking forward to seeing you again on Monday

Safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children is the responsibility of everyone in our school and at all times we consider what is in our children’s best interests. We work to ensure our children our safe and cared for and by doing this we are protecting their health and development and preventing them from harm. If we are worried, we will raise concerns, share information, and take prompt action with the aim of ensuring families receive the right help at the right time.
