"To raise new questions, new possibilities, to regard old problems from a new angle, requires creative imagination and marks real advance in Science." Albert Einstein
Science at Bournville Village Primary School is based on practical, experimental enquiry. At its heart are investigations: planning and carrying out experiments as well as analysing the outcomes. The children are able to find out for themselves, through exploration and key concepts. Investigations provide opportunities for the children to use their imagination; we encourage our children to be curious, creative and confident.
As Science is one of the core subjects, it is taught every week as a separate lesson. Scientific Enquiry is a key aspect of the learning that takes place; the children are given regular opportunities to discover ideas through enquiry. Through the evaluation of their findings and discoveries, the children are able to experience real world experiments.
Skills for the future are developed through their achievements in Science. This attainment and progress is tracked carefully by the teachers. It is also used as a context in Literacy and Numeracy as it enables the children’s enthusiasm for this subject to be applied and the strong links between the subjects developed further.
