Religious Education

Religious Education at Bournville Village Primary School is taught in accordance with the Birmingham Agreed Syllabus 2007. Appropriate material from major world faiths is studied. Children are encouraged to learn and reflect by undertaking a variety of activities in lessons, by using artefacts and by making visits (where possible) or having visitors in school.

The point of R.E. is to help children appreciate what it is that inspires ordinary people to ‘love God’ and to avoid ‘being selfish’ and ‘self-centred’. What is it that people live by and live for? What is that makes people happy? In R.E. the deepest values of human life are shared and discussed.

At Bournville Village Primary School, we follow the Birmingham Agreed Syllabus for Religious Education, through which the children learn from and learn about religion. The syllabus does not identify with individual faiths, but focuses on the principles underpinning faith generally. There is a daily act of worship, which takes place as a whole school, as a phase or as a class. Parents have the right to withdraw their child from Religious Education and/or collective worship. If you would like to discuss this further, please make an appointment to see the Head Teacher.
